Program like Black Ice and ZoneAlarm are somewhat convenient because the user can see which programs are using certain ports and such.

Well, I moved back to my place up in Santa Barbara, for school, and we have a Linksys router. I'm trying to do a Direct connect on AIM or send files over MSN, but it wont' let me because my firewall.

So my question is: Do you guys know of any programs out there which will enable me to see which ports are being used up by my programs?

If you're running WinXP just go to a dos prompt and type:

netstat /ao

(that an oh not a zero)

It'll list what ports are open and what process id has the port open. You can then open Task Manager ctrl+shift+esc or ctrl+alt+del (NT/2K/XP) to see which process ids are which task. (I dunno how to check process ids in Win9x/Me probably need WinTop).

I'll second ActivePorts, that application is quite good at showing you everything you need.
