Software to merge video files

I have a bunch of video files I need to merge into one. I am not sure of the exact format but i think it goes *.r1, *.r2, *.r3 - *.r30(you get the idea). Anyways, I am looking for some free software that will just mash all these together either in AVI or even possibly some kind of dvd format. I could always use AVItoDVD I suppose so AVI will be just fine.

I thought once I had google'd it I saw a program that would do this that was free(at least I think it was), but I guess I forgot to bookmark it.

TIA

Sounds like you'll need winrar - those are actually compressed files. Usually find those for larger videos on torrents / newsgroups.

Use winrar to extract the video file, it'll most likely be in DivX or Xvid or some similar codec.

winrar is one of the popular ones... I personally use powerarchiver as it supports rar files as well... after it's installed, just right-click the .rar file (or .r01 if .rar doesn't exist) and click extract and it will produce the original file(s) for you.

Even if it's just a bunch of *.r's? I'm at work right now so I will have to look at this when I get back home. I do have winrar and it was an option to extract it with winrar, however, I have like 30+ *.r files, so I was wondering if I extract them, am I going to have.....30+ avi, divx, or whatever files?

Yes, it is video from torrent.

If it had came in one big .rar, then yeah that make sense, but I have a bunch of small ones...Maybe I just read it wrong...::reads posts over again::

It's a big RAR that was split into parts (probably because it came over usenet at some point).

I think 7-zip will also work.

If you are downloading from Usenet you might as well get Quickpar while you're at it. You'll need it.

And WinRAR will put these all back together for me?

sorry for sounding stupid here, I just never had to do this before, and am trying to learn as much as I can.

I'll accept links though too, fyi.

I have this.

EDIT:

Ok, so here's the deal. I think I got it work. I extracted one of the *.r files(just picked the first one on the list), and it spit out a single file that ended in *.avi that was the whole thing.

What am I to do with the rest of the *.r files? Can I just delete them now?

Also, my next step now is, since I have 2 folders full of these, I want to mesh 2 avi's together, since their the same movie, just...again, seperate files.

Thank you guys for following up with me on this...

Now, Mr. Pirate, you burn them to two (2) seperate cd's.

So you managed to download whatever pirated movie or TV show and now you're asking for help on how to watch it?

Needing a break from studying, I think I can reply to that comments.

Don't feel the need to imply that whatever it was that I happened to download was pirated. I find it amazing that those who point fingers appear to be able to take someone's question about merging video files downloaded from anything(so be it mine was a torrent) and make it out to be pirating of movies or whatever. Only one such a pirate yourself would really know about that, huh?

Not implying you are pointing fingers at all, you could be joking, making fun. Either way, don't do that.

I simply came here with questions and looking for an answer about how to merge some files and the proper way to do it.
