Post software here that makes you grin with its coolness. My computer is kinda bare still and I want to put some worthwhile tools on it. Thanks!

Running Doom 3 on HIGH is pretty cool. Counter Strike's stress test is pretty cool looking on HIGH settings as well.

Motherboard Monitor 5. I seem to just have to know what my temps are.

FRAPS, here again, I just have to know what my FPS are in games.

Winzip or winrar for zip files.

AVG anti-virus
Adaware
Spybot search and destroy

Nero for burning cd's

I also keep memtest and prime95 around for testing my OC's and stability.

I also seem to like belarc advisor or aida32 for system info.

Oh, and usually got Aquamark or 3D Mark for vid benching.

I keep Rage 3D Tweak on there cuz I OC my vid card

I ussually tweak Windows manually as you will get much better results and there are plenty of more tweaks to be done but TuneXP seems to work well. I highly suggest doing it manually though. There are plenty of tweaking guides on the net to help you out.

Thanks, I'll give it a try. Also, do things like Cacheman or Ram cleaners seem to do anything?

Cacheman is great for marginal memory - once you have 512MB and up, you don't really need it any more but it probably wouldn't hurt to leave it in.

Almost anything by Steve Gibson (SpinRite, etc.) - tightly coded assembly language. SR6 still fits on a floppy!!! Mijenix/OnTrack/V Com SystemSuite/PowerDesk!; Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing, PrintMaster (Broderbund/TLC). Tons of freeware as has been mentioned: Spybot, AdAware, Sygate Personal Firewall, Yeah, Write!, Mozilla etc. etc...

Just about everything by Steve Gibson is worthless, spinrite looked like the only thing worthwhile and even then it's coded in f'ing asm so it's not portable at all. Go ahead, read all of the stuff on his page, you'll feel dumber for it afterwards.

Hell, ya. Then people would be talking about tweaking stuff like OpenMosix to get highest performance out of their machines instead of banging their heads on some obscure registery settings to knock 15 seconds off of their boot-up times.
