Software recommendation for Hard disk fix.

Get a laptop HD 60gb travelstar drive can't create partition after partition delete. Tried it on WinXp disk mamagment and on Winxp boot. I have it on USB external, is any Hard Disk software to low format it?

You're gonna have to give more details about what you did and what happens when you try to create a partition.

Low level formatting isn't done much anymore since it would destroy important data on the drive that is required for the drive to power on.
You probably need to wipe the first couple hundred sectors of the drive. That usually works to remove corrupted boot managers/partition data.
Easy to do from windows.
Download winhex.

Go to tools, open disk, click the drive under physical disk ( not logical )
Click edit, then fill disk sectors
click OK


It will now start filling the drive with 0's starting from the first sector.
Let it run till it reaches sector 1024 then you can cancel it. There is nothing to gained from letting it wipe the whole disk or writing over it multiple times, so save some hard drive wear and tear by canceling once it reaches 1024.

close winhex and try to partition it now.


Seems like a lot of steps, but it only takes a minute to do.

On that you gave, i can download demo version. When ever time I click OK on to fill disk sector, it msg pop up ONLY FULL VERSION ALLOW TO WRITE SECTORS ON THE DISK. IS any anther soft can be recommend?

There're bad sector that Darik's can't wipe.. Tried to use Scandisk in DOS to scan bad sector.. somehow scandisk show error msg "encountered a data error whiting to the root directory"

Was the laptop working correctly before you attempted to do all this? I mean if there are bad sectors on the drive they would probably show themselves during normal activity.

No, it was use as external drive. It has left in my desk for while.. Now, it can't format or partition.

Sorry about that, didn't realize the demo had that limitation, I use the full.

You just need something that will write out the first sectors.

Give RussWinters a PM he does HD recovery and can probably point you to what can fix your problem.

If you are getting bad sectors you need to replace the drive, even one is too many and they tend to spread.
