So, I have a i7 920, an EVGA X58 SLI x3 6GB RAM, Radeon HD 4890... mostly the works ala 2009. Anyway. I had 2 1TB Caviar Blacks in RAID 1. Back when I wasn't NEAR as technically inclined I decided it would be a great idea to install OSX on one of the drives while it was still in software raid... lets just say that didn't go all that great as you can imagine.
Now this hasn't been an enormous issue. I can still see both drives and use both separately. When I boot my computer though, it says J micron Raid (displays all of the version info, and both the drives) and says in flashing red
WARNING: Although the drives are not currently in raid, there is still a raid formation on the drives. (or something close to that nature).
The only reason i'm concerned is that the drives need to be formatted far more often than they should. One time during a transfer my E: drive decided it was going to take 3 hours for a 50 MB file, and on occasion they seem to freeze explore for 30 seconds or more when accessing certain files and folders.
Currently my computer would be rated a 6.9 (computations per second is lowest) but it is being dragged down by a 5.9 transfer speed, which I know isn't the true rating for a Caviar Black. I've heard reports of 7.8s with the Blacks.
