Hi all,

I just bought a Dell Inspiron 9400 (I believe the E1700 is the equivalent in the USA) to replace my old Toshiba M15-S405.

What I loved about my old laptop was the app for controlling the power profiles and limit CPU when running on battery. That would enable me to tweak my 3 year old battery to make it last 3 hrs by lowering the CPU to its minimum. However, my Dell laptop lacks this control, and battery runs very fast.

This laptop has a Pentium Core Duo 1.83Ghz, so Speedstep should be available. Is there any way I can tweak the CPU power consumption? I'm using CPU Idle, but it isn't quite as good as the app from my previous laptop.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks,

I have used Rightmark's CPU clock utility on my laptop...it should help you with your battery problem.

Link

Scroll down to "RM Clock Utility" and download.

I just tried Rightmark's, seems to be doing the trick and I'm starting to love the levels of customization available.

Thanks!
