Software engineers thread

I know there are some software engineers out there and this thread is for you! List your gripes and tribulations on this thread. You know, bosses, staplers, stupid acronyms, and is there a person in your office that is like a character from Office Space?

At the university I used to work at I shared a large office that was split into 2 cubes with a workbench along the entry wall. The guy in the other cube was Milton down to the T. He was greasy, had horrendous hygeine and seemed to have a problem with actually throwing trash away as he had a large pile of garbage under his desk. He also smelled so bad I had to buy some plug in air fresheners to keep my cube from smelling like his. After that project I got transferred to OIT at the same university and for around 6 months had 3 bosses that would often repeat or contradict something the other had said. At my most recent job I had there was a red stapler on the 8th floor that mysteriously moved from office to office. I have also had to turn in "TPS" reports at that job it was also a software company. 😀:beer:
I have seen it all - I have lived Office Space lol

well then make that your next rental. if you are in an office with cubicles....this movie is the perfect example of a work environment.

I'm a software engineer who transcended the oppressive, Dilbert-principle, cubicle farming environment of most corporations; I now work for myself. Seeing Office Space for the first time was a completely liberating experience, but that's because I could so closely relate. I of course have colleagues/friends still in corporations, and I get to hear of their stories on a daily basis. One of my better developer friends actually interfaced with the president of the Dollar Thrifty Auto Group after he sent an email to one of the directors about being inundated with "motivational" material surrounding their company mascot. He quoted Office Space in the email, and he actually included a Dilbert comic related to company mascots. I was surprised he had the audacity to do it, but it was hilarious. The president actually heeded his somewhat satirical complaint, called him up to the office, and discussed how such ostensibly motivational materials actually destroy morale.

Anyway, I will never again work in such an environment.

critical software &amp; then bailed before they were
stable enough to be deployed.:frown:

the things are big, fscking messes (crappy design, crappy coding),
&amp; i'm stuck maintaining them.:frown:

he sucked up to the bosses, who thought he was
a golden boy, while stabbing a co-worker
in the back, causing him to lose his job.:frown:

then HE got a HUGE raise &amp; the rest of us didn't get squat:frown:

Sounds like a pretty normal software project. You have my empathy :beer:
