Software DVD player

Do you have a DVD drive on your computer/laptop?
If so, what type of decoder/dvd player does it use?

I have a DVD drive on my Gateway Laptop and unfortunately, the player I'm using (DVDPlay) isn't great -- e.g., it gets choppy during the film (this is a DVD playing on a freshly-formatted HD). Does anyone know of a good software decoder that works well for them?

Thanks 🙂

Download Trial versions of WindDVD 2.3 and PowerDVD 3.0 and see which one runs better on your system. Both of them are of nearly equal quality, although I prefer WinDVD a little more. Picture and sound quality are better in my opinion in WinDVD (although barely noticeable, need nice system to see difference), but PowerDVD seems to run a little smoother if you have older system.

You can then purchase which ever one you want, or look into other methods of getting hold one (not that hard to find).

Both WinDVD and PowerDVD perform well. I've had better luck with PowerDVD across the Windows platforms, while WinDVD, the older version, stumbled on W2K..with WinDVD 2000, I would presume they've taken care of that..

These are by far the most popular 2 software DVD players, I would suggest you download both, try them out and choose the one that fits your need..Regards
