Software designed for a specific type of video adapter?

I've seen a few software titles saying that they are designed for video cards based on nVidia chipsets. Are there very many software titles designed specifically for chipsets by nVidia or any other company? And if so, which company are most of those titles designed for?

I wouldn't mind knowing about games, but I'm building a computer for a friend, and he and his wife are not gamers, so I'm more interested in knowing about software other than games at this point.

Thanks!

I don't think there's a lot of software designed for a particular graphics chip, if any.
I know if you get Nero Burning Rom w/ your CDrw, it usually only works for that brand/model of CDrw

There's rarely any application that's designed for a specific piece of hardware (well I am saying this in the view point of the average computer user), cuz this just isnt a sensible thing to do....

However, there are differences between video cards... For example, since Nvidia cards are basically video cards specifically for gaming, they are very good at 3D graphics, while Matrox cards might be better for 2D graphics applications... So you might wanna take into account what you want to do with the computer when choosing your video card...
