Software bought from Ebay

Is it safe to buy an Operating System from Ebay? I noticed most items are listed brand new, never been used but only comes with a CD and COA.

Worst case, seems if you got the original CD with COA you could always phone MS and get a legit key if the provided one is shady. They might wanna know how sold you bunk/pirated OS too, but I hear they happily replace pirated ones if you bought it.

If they have enough feedback to be trusted I don't see too much harm in doing it. Besides, you can always get your money back if it has been used as they didn't sell the product they told you it was.

Assuming you mean Windows here, and assuming you want a legit valid license, definitely avoid the ones that were intended for an HP, a Dell, a Gateway, or any other OEM. They're not legit for anything else but the systems they were intended for, whether they work and activate or not. I'd just get one from Newegg and call it done, I got better things to do than wrestle with Ebay scammers for three weeks to save $30. 😉

I've purchased a valid copy of Windows XP Pro Retail from eBay for less than retail a few years ago. I still use this copy as well as the license till this day.
