Yes, when I read "Tonic" for Massachusetts, I was asking myself what kind of drugs they are on...

Not from the south, but have some influence of it via relatives. Really perplexed my wife the first time she heard me in a conversation similar to the one above.

Off-topic, but some other countries say it in weird ways too.. In Spain, it's always 'una kokakula' (phonetically spelled).
