Socket754 versus Socket939 system.

Ok my current system is a Socket939 3500+ but i am looking to upgrade to 4000+ so for comparision sake we will pretend i have a 4000+ onboard. Now as my motherboard has given up i have to get a new motherboard so i have an opportunity to change a few things and i noticed that i could buy a DFI LANPARTY UT nF3 250Gb Socket 754 board and buy a 3700+ running at 2.4 gig and 1mb cache (same asa S939 4000+ which costs alot more) so am i wise to make that change to benefit my 7800gtx? To me it is cheaper to go with Socket 754 as i could get a DFI socket754 board and a 3700+ for about £100 cheaper than if i was to buy a DFI Socket939 board and upgrade to 4000+ and i would get the same performance?
Need advice as i am making a decision tomorrow but i would like to make the decision today if possible. Thanks for any help.

if you have a 7800gtx a 754 board like the lanparty wont do much good, because its AGP not PCI-e, although ECS makes a PCI-e 754 motherboard its not with best (the FSB is limited to 250) and Im not aware of any others

939 has greater bandwidth, i think, so the performance will be somewhat greater than the 754 system. But it's all a waste of money imo. Stick with that 3500+, it's all you need!

Damn, sorry the site i was using never lsited whether that socket 754 board has AGP or PCI. I just assumed it was PCI-e rather than think.

Opteron 148 has the 1MB cache and is 939 Pin (2200mhz stock speed)

Really though if you have better than A64-3200 CPU is probably not
really going to make a big difference.
