hi folks:

i have a new Toshiba 3000 running win ME.

i was able to dial-up to AOL using the laptop internal modem a few days ago. everything was fine.

last night i tried, unsuccessfully, to configure Palm Desktop 4.01 to hotsync with my Palm Vx via infra-red.

afterwards, i was no longer able to connect to ANY ISP via modem. i get the same error message "socket not connected".

i guess a file is corrupted with winME. since i was able to connect to an ISP via modem a few days ago, this is prob not a hardware issue.

any ideas how to fix this problem?

thanks in advance.

I would try removing the modem from Device Manager and rebooting. Hopefully ME will detect it again and reinstall the drivers. If not, download the newest drivers for the modem from the Toshiba website and choose "update" driver in the Device Manager.

Good luck.

hi:

thanks for your suggestion.

i noticed, however, that the modem dials and connects and i see AOL trying to send password (it does) and tries to authenticate. so the modem does work and it does dial in. but at the very last step of the logging in process i get the "socket not connected" error.

is the problem still the modem driver ?
