I just read about the new series AMD socket , 940. Its coming out in April and AMD is releasing processors such as the dual core 5000 and the athlon 64 fx 62...however they said socket 939 is still gonna last until q1 2007 which means we dont have to upgrade right away. But for someone who wants the best of the best, is anyone getting it when it first comes out? AMD is just now coming out with the dual 16x pci-e motherboards, like the new asus A8n32-SLI Deluxe sli x16 , which gets better fps than the none dual ones like the asus sli premium, but its going for $250 right now, if you can find it. DFI has one too . Im a hardcore gamer who likes to have the best pc possible , so im going for the 940 right when it comes out. for now , im getting the a8n32 sli, IMHO its the best motherboard out right now next to DFI's. i cant wait until april!

You have too much money. I suggest you buy a PSP, an Xbox 360, and a Nintendo DS. Then you don't have to worry about upgrading so often.

I'll stick with my old dead end tech (AGP, nForce3 Ultra, Socket 939) system.

I am not very excited about M2.

I might get more interested much later on when it actually becomes cheap, affordable, & good for OCing, but i think that's a year & a half away at least.

Same here basically. Plus I just got an Opteron 170, so I don't think I'll really feel that tempted by anything M2 brings for the next year :D

Ebonicly speaking, I wont be an early adopter. When M2 arrives, motherboard and chipset selection will be slim. You will be lucky if there are more than 10 motherboards to choose from when it launches in April.

My understanding is that the only "new" thing that really comes with M2 is DDR2 support, and DDR2 really isn't a big leap ahead of plain DDR, so I think I'll pass. I try to only upgrade when doing so actually nets worthwhile new features. For example, my last big upgrade got me PCI-E, SATA, and 64-bit processing support (among other things), and I don't plan on overhauling the system again until I can pull off something similar. Socket M2 just isn't worth my time.

Next comp I get will be with vista and dx10. If m2 is still around by then, that's fine with me.

April is the month of my b-day, but I dont plan on getting m2 socket waiting for benchmarks :)

edit: if its anything like socket 754 to socket 939 it wont be worth it only thing socket 939 really had was pci-e.

I don't need the latest, shooting for 939 X2 right now with AGP. I just need more processing power. It's quite possible though since 6600gt pci-e is super cheap I might go 939 X2 with PCI-e. I've come to realize I'm not really that hardcore of a gamer and the games I play run just fine on my 9600xt already.

It would be nice to have an M2 but unless it's insanely faster than 939 X2 I don't see the point right away.

I dont plan on upgrading but I'll laugh if AMD pulls a rabbit out of a hat and surprises everyone with something....PCI-e controller on die anyone?? *shrug* I dont think it's *just* gonna be DDR2 support
