The idea of worrying about socket lifespan is ridiculous.
With USB3, SATA3, and 802.11n around the corner it doesn't make any sense to even consider it.

Good point, although those features are unlikely going to be an absolute Need by anyone here(with a few exceptions). For many years anyway.
