The idea of worrying about socket lifespan is ridiculous.
With USB3, SATA3, and 802.11n around the corner it doesn't make any sense to even consider it.

If this AMD roadmap is correct, Socket AMx will remain viable at least through 2011.

Good point, although those features are unlikely going to be an absolute Need by anyone here(with a few exceptions). For many years anyway.
