I was just wondering what upgrade options the sockets will have and which one will be around the longest for future drop in upgrades?

Did AMD officially confirm Pilediver will be AM3+ and compatible with existing mobos ?
One year ago everyone thought BD will run in AM3 mobos.

So no guarantee they won't pull shit like this again.

i dont think it was confirmed by amd, i saw it in a few places when looking up vishera thru google. idk if any of this is confirmed but komodo is being replaced by vishera and am3+ support not fm2. google it yourself and form your own opinion as u i cant verify this.

Just FYI Vishera has Q3 guidance on latest roadmaps. Until then, 8170 is the top model with supposed 3.9/4.2/4.5Ghz specs.

AM3+ is a dead socket unless we get a 32nm Thuban. Any way you spin it there's no possibility AMD will be able to tame the power draw on BD, and you can't sell a barely competitive product in this day in age with such massive drawbacks. People will inevitably find out no matter how clueless they are about computer hardware.

I'm all for being creative, but BullDozer is definitely not that. Just goes to show you why AMD is nothing compared to Intel, they screw themselves over.

I wouldn't be too optmistic for either to last much past 4Q 2012. That is assuming IB and PD both work on existing AM3+ and 1155.

Drop in upgrades have a poor future. Seems like CPU makers have decided that it's not worth the hassle. They are probably right - I can't possibly imagine the market for it is very large.

AMD practically will ditch their old quad cores and 6 core , With the new Bulldozer. then after BD in 2013 come out with something to compete with Intel. gl
