Socket A Sempron vs Athlon XP

So, I'm getting ready to build an "El Cheapo" computer. I'm using a Socket A motherboard, and want to know what the difference is between the Socket A Semprons and Similarly-priced Athlon XP's. I was under the impression that the Socket A Semprons were just rebranded Athlon XP's, but I know there are some differences. The question is: What?

These are the two best processors that are within my budget:
Athlon XP 2800+
Sempron 3000+

The Athlon XP has a better clock speed, but I know that doesn't mean much. How do these processors really compare? Which one will give me better performance?

Both are Bartons (that Sempron is the only Barton Sempron - the other Socket A Semprons are Thoroughbred or Thorton cores). The XP2800+ is a little faster at stock speed due to the 12.5 multiplier vs. the Sempron's 12.0. But if overclocking, 12.0 will make it easier to raise the FSB from 166 to 200.

But the XP mobiles are cheaper and better if your motherboard supports them.

Both are fine but if you are willing to overclock, save some money and get this multiplier unclocked chip.

you won't likely hit 200fsb on either of those chips; With a clockspeed difference of 80mhz, buy whichever is cheaper.
