Hi all,

I need a new HSF for my socket A athon XP mobile 2400+ proc. The mobo is an MSI KT3V. I need suggestions for a good HSF I can get for this proc/mobo.

Thanks for chipping in....

If you can find it and it fits, the SLK900A or SLK800A. Neither require the mounting holes and both provide excellent cooling.

If operated at its stock speeds, it runs very cool. If boosted to run at the equivalent of XP 2800 speeds, it will get a little warmer, and will still have some headroom. So, does "loud" or "quiet" figure in your criteria? Do you plan on a full-out OC program?

Many of the messagers offering suggestions will be more interested in high performance, not in cool, quiet usage in an HTPC box. The SLK's will be hard to find, and the SI-97 is a special product for overclockers also. I have an newly discovered affection for blue neon glowing parts (got my first windowed PC boxes over the summer), and Gigabyte has several they sell. I liked the "Neon 7" well enough to want a second one, but couldn't find one of those at the time I was shopping, and got a "G-Power" instead.

The G-Power is made similarly to an SI-97, except it clips on, is just a bit smaller, and has a pretty blue (90mm) fan on it. I think it would answer your need if you aren't into major overclocking, and it does look GOOD through a window!
