Hi. I need help.

I am building a Gig T-Bird with an Abit KT7 motherboard. What would be these best HSF setup? Do I need to get one of those copper overlays, even if I use thermal paste?

I am thinking about the Agilent ArctiCooler, but I heard some issues about the installation. What are your thoughts?

I don't mind screwing around with a $55.00 AMD K6-2, but not $250.00 T-Bird!

The Alpha PAL6035 is what I'm currently using and it's been great. It's currently sold out at many places, but 3DfxCOOL does have it in stock under the name Alpha 7HO-FAN. 🙂
 
I'm a fan of the Global Win FOP32-1. Got mine at 2cooltek for $20 and it does an excellent job of keeping my Celery 566 cool at over 950mhz, it'll also fit on a T-bird without a problem. Just scrape the thermal pad off and apply your own paste. Doesn't cool quite as well as the above mentioned Alpha (couple degress warmer) but it's also a lot less expensive. My $.02
 
If you get the 3dfxcool Pal6035 you will need ot tighten the clip. They currently sell it with the old socket 370 clip(not enough pressure for a Duron/T-bird).

mikewarrior2, you sure 3dfxcool uses the old alpha clips? i'm using an alpha from them with no problems on a kt7. also they assured me in email that they use the new socket-a clips. (altho i bought from them more than a month ago; i notice they have a new supplier for their alphas)
 
I recieved my Alpha from them last week and I'm pretty sure it has the revised clip now. It actually seemed to have a little more pressure than the current Vantec I was using.
 
You might need to use the Taisol CEK933092($11.30) w/ the Abit.
The Taisol CEK934092($21) might not fit the Abit(those capacitor.)
The 934 is the one that came w/ the retail version.
These Taisol will fit fine w/ the Asus A7v.

Are you buying the retail version(3 yrs. warranty.) AMD.
 
Ive only used the fop32 and Kanie Hedgehog, but if your willing to put up the buck the hedgehog will walk all over the fop32.
 
hedgehog is good, but no better than the alpha, cause it has about 100 less pins......now a revised one would rock........
also, you can get alphas from millisec 🙂

No. The only thing I can think the warranty would be good for is if I crack my die or something. But, I'm not sure the warranty would cover that kind of misuse.

Hey, I went to the taisol store and they have some new fan&heat sink part, but it doesn't allow you to buy it. Anyone know where I can get the taisol "big bad voodoo daddy"? I am not sure if it is a joke or if that is the real name.
 
I believe that it is a reference to the 742 for which there was a link (which, of course, I now can't find) to a review in another thread. The 742 beat the Alpha cleanly. The same model showed up on the Taisol web site, but with a bigger fan.
