Not a tweaker...want to upgrade one of my old Dell machines...decided on AMD for $$$ and current upgrade path...stability and durability of construction more important to me than benchmark numbers:

ECS-K7S5A - have heard ECS board manufacturing not great
Epox EP-8K7A+ - ???

Do I need to spend the $$$ for Asus or Gigabyte if I want a board to last awhile?

$$$ doesn't always = quality. The epox 8k7a+ board is awesome, I have it, and have my 1.4ghz overclocked to 1.6ghz stable. Personally i'm not a big fan of gigabyte, or asus for that matter. Asus is great, but they overcharge. I'd definately go with Epox or Abit... but wait until the new chipset comes out, the KT266A, epox will be releasing a version of the 8kha+ with the new chipset in it which is gonna be sweet. ECS makes ok boards, but unless you're on a budget, i'd spend the extra $40 and get an epox or abit.
