Socket A coolers...help !!!

OK

Got a Asus A7V motherboard, bought it used- and the seller failed to inform me that the clip on the bigger side (closest to the RAM) of the socket holder thingy was broken.

I am looking for a Heatsink/fan combo that uses outer two / all three clips to clip the CPU down??? eeds to go up to 1.2 Ghz

Thanks

i just put a swiftech mcxc370 on my duron 800. it has a great clip system that uses all 3 clips on both sides and is very easy to install. it's also very sturdy and my temps went from 48-50 to 35-38. this is with a enermax 80mm adjustable fan running at the middle setting to keep the noise down. i wanted to use an alpha pal8065 which mounts without using any clips but was afraid it wouldn't fit my mobo. the price was the same at $38 plus shipping.

hope this helps,
rockybrown

I replied in your other thread. The ThermalRight AX-7 uses all three cleats, uses an 80mm fan, so its nice and quiet (if you want it to be) and has very good cooling. As Rockybrown suggested, the MCX370 is also a very good choice.

you could also use something that mounts into the 4 holes surrounding the socket. Thats what i would do. Go swiftech, Alpha, or the Ax-7.

jh0sken612,

I think that really sucks someone (A%#hole) sold you a mb and didn't inform you of the broken tab/tabs on the zif Socket A .........!!!
Let's hope that is all that is wrong with it ........................ ???

I was surprised to find even the Dragon Orb 3 base grabs all three socket tabs on each side, as do several of the Taisol CGK's.
You can also peruse some of the hsf round-up reviews and scope out the retaining clips on the various entrys............

Thats a very crappy way of doing business. You need to disclose all problems with a product when you sell it.

The taisol cgk with the 3 clips was very good to me when I broke the center tab on my asus a7v.

i second the taisol cgk760092

i'm using that too on an asus a7v

and i've broken off my middle tab too 🙂

anyone have any good resuls with the ax-7?

i thin it looks cool

Im not sure if that board is compatable with the ALPHA PAL 8045. If so that and a Panaflo 80mm fan would be cool since the ALPHA doesnt use the clips to mount.
