socket A 'CHEEP' advice

Gotta help out a friend that I talked out of buying another SS7 board to replace one that fried. Need a low end Socket A board and Duron 600 w/ hs/fan for like < = 200 smackers. I know it can be done, anyone here have any suggestions on what/where to look? I'm going to have to go gentle on em, and they are positively not interested in overclocking at this point, so I don't need jumpers or bios multiplier settings. (Besides, I'll do the golden bridges on her!!) Lemme know, you can email me too if you'd like. 🙂email me here!

There's a new Asus a7pro that's supposed to be cheap with multiplier and voltage adjustments.

You can just get a oem duron for like $60 shipped and heasink for $23

There are many motherboard options for socket-A. There aren't many (if any?) with onboard video. I don't know about that pc chips one so I can't really comment on it. get the lowest price you can on a socket-A mobo from Pricewatch and check to see if it is a good vendor Here Then order a Duron from Onvia which has decent prices and free shipping. The ones for Onvia are retail and come with a heatsink/fan in the box. ENJOY!

I knew asking you bunch would get me some good responses. Gentleman all! I didn't know about the ONVIA site for the Durons, I'll check that out. Thanks for the other comments as well. BTW, has anyone seen any of the reviews of the PC Chips board? I've used a ton of em on the SS7 side, and while unimpressive, they did get the job done w/ little or no fuss.

The MSI K7T PRO ($125 & one of the best Socket A boards) ,Taisol heatsink/fan $13 & the Duron 600 $50,go to pricewatch.com under CPU/Motherboard combos ,quite a few to choose from.

🙂

Spend a couple more bucks for a decent mobo now. A good investment considering the upgrade potential to 1.1 gig plus TBIRDS .
