From all the articles I have read on amdzone about the launch of 939 and even the reviews of the early chips hitting stores soon it seems the only chips that are being released at launch are the 3500+, 3700+, and the 3800+. I'm not sure if its just a misconception on my part but I was under the impression that socket 939 would scale all the way down to the 3000+, is that still true? Thx guys!

They probably will eventually... the 754 socket started with the 3200 I believe, and later (sneakily) they added in the lower processors. They probably just want you to buy the more expensive ones first before giving out any other options.

They don't wanna sell <$200 3000+ parts too soon or everyone will just buy those and overclock them :D

You guys should not wait for 939. I wish I could find link but the prices will be insane. somehting like $600 for the 3500+ $800 for 3700+ etc/

Since they're dual channel chips... I'd expect them to be comparable to the FX series in price. The FX series may still be a bit more expensive because of the unlocked multiplier.

Either way... waiting for 939 is still a good idea... new CPU's will drive the price of current CPU's down to a more reasonable level. Can't wait for the first ~$100 Athlon-64's =) I just hope they don't dump a bunch of 1.4 GHz Athlon 64 2400+'s out there at $100 and say "there's your $100 Athlon 64 guys, buy em up!"

as long as they overclock I'd buy them

Prices for 939 CPUs will not, or rather should not, be comparable to FX series of CPUs.

Dual Channel controlers aren't a good enough reason to jack prices through the roof since the cost to put them in is negligable at best. They will have half the HT, which reduces size and cost immediately and not by a tiny margin, plus it will also mean higher yields, which just means even more profit.

If anything 939 CPUs will be cheaper, or rather should be cheaper. Unless they significantly outperform current CPUs (highly unlikely) they cannot justify a comparable price point to the FX line.

AMD will have to make a choice if the CPUs are comparable to the current A64 line in performance. Do we pass down the $$$ savings to the customer and undercut Intel yet again, or do we pocket the cash and call it a day.

If they actually hike prices through the roof they are going to loose customers or at the very least delay buyers significantly and by then who knows what could happen. Either way it would be a major "No No" for AMD to pull that stunt. I don't think as a company they could afford to do that. Intel can afford to, but not AMD.
