Socket 756 upgrade

I built my rig in '03 with an AMD Athlon64 3200+ CPU with an Asus K8V-Deluxe MOBO. What are my upgrade options? Can I squeeze a quad-core AMD chip into this MOBO? Also, for gaming, is the Intel Core i7 950 worth the extra $ than the AMD PhenomII X4 970 BE? I understand this AMD CPU is better at gaming than the Phenom II X6 1090T.

Nope, that mobo is too old. I think all AMD quad cores are AM2, AM2+, or AM3.

If you want to pay for the Phenom II 970BE, the i5-760 is the better choice. The i7-950 is definitely not worth it over the i5-760 or the Phenom II X4 970.
