Socket 7 motherboard question

Will all socket 7 motherboards support socket 7 pentium /mmx cpu and AMD-K6 socket 7 cpu?

The reason I ask this is cause I have a socket 7 motherboard that originally ran an Intel Pentium 200 Mhz w/MMX processor. I want to replace this with an AMD-K6 266 Mhz processor. However, the computer will not boot with this new processor. I don't know if it's the jumper settings or if the motherboard itself is not compatitble. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks!

Here's the drill:

We need Motherboard make and model.

Not all socket 7 boards support all socket 7 style cpus.

Your FSB must be 66mghz. Your multiplier must be 4x

Post the make and model of the board in question and we can let you know if it will work or not.

The multiplier is needed so the board knows what speed the processor is. 4 x 66mghz = 264mghz.

I am currently trying to find out the make and model of the motherboard. It's an OEM board of a Sony Vaio.

AMD K7 processors are NOT socket-7. K6 is.

Socket-7 boards, in their hardware, accept any socket-7 processor. Whether they'll be able to supply the correct voltages and operating frequency, now that's another question - and whether the board's BIOS is written to accept and initialize your CPU, that's #3.

If you cannot find out the model number of the board and it will boot with the original Pentium 200MMX, try looking at the lower left hand portion of the screen as soon as it boots up. If there are a string of letters and numbers there (something like 2321-x83kj-223482903) record those numbers and post them here. We may be able to identify the board that way.

Ok, thanks to tcsenter, I think I tentatively identified my motherboard as either an Intel AG430HX or AN430TX OEM mainboard.
