Hotness. Shouldn't it be more like high 30's to low 40's idle and mid to high 60's load? Thermal spec is 70-75ish depending upon sSpec (a bit higher than Prescott). Heck at normal room temps, my 3.0E @ 3600 idles at 42 after it has warmed up and peaks in the high 60's (perhaps a couple degrees higher than previous 2.4C @ 2900).

Don't believe the hype aboot Prescott temps, as far as later models go.

Why cannay you reach CMOS Setup? Can the BIOS be replaced with one that allows access? What mobo?

overclockers forum may be the best place for info.

My o/c'd 2.8c averages in the 40s . . . 50s under much load . . . WAAY too much heat . . . is the HS properly seated?

and i brought up the "Socket 478 MB with PCIe" to 'bump' the thread this AM . . . i believe only one - an Albatron was made . . . i doubt i could keep my O/C on it anyway and plan to get "whatever" they releaase in the highest end AGP part. . . . end of life for my rig. :(

especially O/C'ing

$94 shipped from the 'Egg

evidently it would allow me to keep my CPU and RAM and only change the MB so i could enjoy the "benefits" of PCIe . . .

it looks like $100 shipped to Cali . . . i could probably get $40 for my Abit 1c7 . . . do you think it is worth $60 just to get a top VideoCard and maybe lose my O/C?

i am just not ready to move to A64 . . . i am happy with my rigs' performance EXCEPT for my video card.
anyone know? Should i head over to MBs or CPU/O'cing

i would just get a better video card and keep your o/c

that's sorta what i thought . . . unfortunately the x850xtpe is the fastest AGP card - doesn't look like anything beyond it . . . it appears that ati won't release r520 in AGP :(. . . . maybe there is still hope if there is demand . . . i guess i will just wait a bit more. . . . my 9800xt is still chuggin along at 10x7 . . . shortly F.E.A.R. is gonna choke it. :p

thanks

maybe ati will have another sale on their "refurbed" x800xtpe w/ 3yr warranties...

it's already only at $300 . . . if the x800GTO2 gets released in AGP - it IS a TRUE x800xt-pe with a simple BIOS flash - the guys in Hot Deals are getting the PCIe x800GTO for $220 and there haven't been ANY failures flashing it to at least an X800XT.

X800GTO2 - Anyone pick one up and mod it to a X850XT yet?

Unfortunately, i was looking for something a bit faster with SM3.0, Transparancy AA, etc. :p

apoppin, I feel your pain. I too am otherwise content with my system but was looking forward to at least one more viddy card upgrade (I had kinda figgered this XL would be relatively temporary but now perhaps not... at least I am more glad I have been able to enjoy it rather than having waited for something faster in AGP which was my original intention). I am not keen on downgrading my mobo to the likes of that Albatron or Asrock just to do so. Perhaps there is still hope but I certainly shan't expect anything this year. Maybe an RV590 will fit the bill :Q
