I just got a Socket 478 P4 1.7 gigahertz processor and a ASUS P4T-E Motherboard. They work fantastic and I couldn't be happier.
However, after installing United Devices Cancer Research Program and letting it run for a while, I noticed the CPU temperature was at 75 degrees celcius on the temperature monitor of the motherboard software! WOW! The heatsink wasn't overly hot or anything. When not doing anything, the temperature sits at 38-40 degrees celcius.
I am using a Antec case with 3 cooling fans in it. I used the Intel heatsink and fan, but I used silver thermal paste instead of the thermal pad. Any idea why it is running so hot? Is it supposed to run that hot? Anyone know of a place on Intel's website or something where I can view the temperatures of the 478 processors and what they recommend? You would think that the Intel heatsink and fan would provide better cooling....not unless these processors run hot.
I can confirm the CPU and heatsink are on correctly. I can also confirm that I put enough paste on as well.
EDIT: The board temperature hangs at about 29 degrees celcius. Those 3 cooling fans help.
Thanks!
