I was just wondering what the difference was between the Socket 423 & Socket 478 specifications if anybody could help me out?

Thanks

currently with wilamette, the core is the same but the socket is different. s478 is the future and s423 is being phased out.

Exactly. The 423 was Intel's test baby for the P4 to get it out there. Now the 478 socket is the way to go.

So is there any difference as to transistors, fabrication process, heat, or voltage?

Naturally, this question comes to my mind. Is there such thing as Socket 478 to Socket 428 adaptor?

My point was going to be on that. I read a post a couple of months ago. I dont remember when, about mb manufacturers saying that it wouldnt be too difficult to build a 478 to 423 adapter. Unfortunately I can't give a link because it was a long time ago. Does anyone know what that would constitute? What would be the designs of those things?

Another thing just came to my mind. If, as the mobo makers say, it isnt difficult, why is Intel taking the pains to go from one platform to another like this? Is it just to boost their chipset sales or what? Depend on Intel to do stupid things like these.
