Aye, the 845 chipset brought DDR RAM to the P4 platform. Unfortunately, it was also a single channel DDR chipset and had fairly poor performance in comparison to the 850 RDRAM enabled chipset.

Via also had some DDR P4 chipsets, but they didn't have Intel's blessing to produce them at the time. They are probably fairly rare at the moment.
 
Yes, it looks like the VIA P4X266 chipset might be able to provide you with what you want if you could ever find any boards supporting it.
