after hearing and reading about the recalls and everything my question is, should 1155 be avoided alltogether?

No. It has been fixed. The new boards will be fine. Price/performance of the 2500K CPUs is better than any other choice.

You want the P67 chipset boards not the H67 chipset.

ASRock is giving an extra year warranty for purchases before the end of June, and their $150 board did well against the $190 Gigabyte and Asus boards:

. . . but Asus and Gigabyte do have cheaper boards starting at $130 so you have a lot of choices. You should look at what features you want and consider any brand preferences you have.
