Socialize medicine, does that mean we can socialize lawyers?

What do you all think, I think it would be wiser to socialize our lawyers, one fee for all cases, that would get things under control... or not.

linky about the company getting owned....

evil lawyers continueing to try and own an already bankrupt company

some lawyers are ok ... malpractice lawyers are out to make a quick buck off of people's fear and emotion...
"But so far, there's been no scientific proof to back up those claims."

LOL!! God forbid.

Every criminal is entitled to a lawyer, but you aren't entitled to a flu shot.

Uh, is something wrong with this picture?

I can agree that the way lawyers receive huge percentages is messed up, but in a free market what can you do ?

You reform things from the inside. Whether he will or not is another thing.

"fcuk malpractice"

Oh, I see. So when the drunk doctor botches your father's surgery and he dies as a result, plungin you and your mother into poverty since he was the sole breadwinner....are you still going to "fcuk malpractice"?

The lesson here is that there isn't a clear answer, and even the best intended programs and policies become abused. This exists in EVERY field, in every level, and with every kind of person you can imagine. Right down to those pens you steal from work every day.

Wow! The misinformation campaign rides again.

John Edwards tried all of his cases in North Carolina. We have EXPLICIT laws about "meritous cases" and "expert testimony". In fact, there are several levels of protections that impede the progress of "frivolous" and "meritous" cases alike.

Lawyers are not responsible for the dysfunction in our healthcare system. Some of you really have the Bush stump speech on the brain but that's not an excuse for not thinking. Obviously, our healthcare system is FULL of profit-motive since it encompasses 1/7 of our GDP. The vast majority of that economic activity takes place between entities that provide little if any actual care. Trial lawyers are a such a small component that they scarcely deserve mentioning.

Medmal premiums: Trends more closely follow stock market performance than settlement patterns or tort reform. In fact, CA premiums moderated with the creation of a regulatory board and rising stock indexes . . . NOT the cap on Medmal awards.

Uninsured: Function of a patchwork system of healthcare financing . . . there's no political power or profit in providing care to the uninsured . . . so it has not happened. I will go out on a limb and say a 2nd Bush41 term or a 1st Dole term would have dramatically affected the number of uninsured children. SCHIP would not exist if the GOP had ruled the Executive branch in the 90s.

Vaccine shortage: Despite Bush claims, companies did NOT abandon vaccine production due to liabilities. Companies abandoned vaccine production due to profit motive. Viagra could be produced at almost any of Pfizer's 60 factories in 30 countries and it's worth several billion dollars a year. The current GLOBAL vaccine market is scarcely worth several billion dollars. There's very little money in preventing disease . . . there's buckets of money in treating disease.

Drug companies spend 13% of revenue on R&D. They spend 41% on marketing and administration. They spend less than 1% on free medication. Who needs socializing??

Despite the fact that the Vaccine Injury Compensation Program provides SIGNIFICANT protection against lawsuits . . . there's only ONE manufacturer for a variety of childhood vaccines (VICP only covers childhood vaccinations). That's profit motive speaking . . . not lawsuits.
