That sucks. Wonder how hard legal name changes are -- this might still work for a few more months before they perfect facial recognition software on Facebook.

I want to chastise for not being more careful, but I've left my work computer unlocked all the time.

I'm so tired of the instantaneous YOU'RE FIRED response to every public misstep these days. I'd dock her a weeks pay, and tell the student body and the town to get over it.

And you'd get sued into oblivion. She wasn't fired. She resigned. She had personal pictures on a personal phone that a student illegally sent out. Yeah, I'd sue the fuck out of anyone that fired me or docked me pay for that.

as a parent with a 16 year old, i would beat my sons ass for theft and being an asshole then i would drag him to the teachers house and make him apologize to the teacher and her husband.

anyone who takes naked pictures of themselves in any situation deserves whatever happens to them

it doesn't matter if it was for her husband, she's still an idiot for allowing the pictures to even exist

She didn't have a choice:

Union County School District interim Superintendent David Eubanks said that she either had the choice to go through the dismissal process or resign since it was determined she shouldered some of the responsibility to keep those "inappropriate" pictures private.

That's bullshit.

Per the article, they were going to start the process to fire her. To potential future employers, being fired looks worse than resigning. She was accepting the inevitable and minimizing the damage.

Read the article - she was forced to resign. I was going to say that it's partly the school's fault for allowing students to enter a teacher's classroom without supervision, but... she should have locked the classroom door, and she was the one monitoring the hallway.

Yeah she chose not to fight what would have been a pretty easy to win wrongful termination suit.

Her only inappropriate act was leaving the classroom unlocked. And is that something they are going to fire her over?

Student should get expelled for stealing the phone

I'm not one to advocate needless violence, but this one is ripe for it. That unnamed 16 years old needs to be named and shamed on the internet, see how he/she feels, and beaten a few times.

Come on /b, I know you're up for it. Counting on it.

Who cares? Kids can see her naked, big whoop. It doesn't affect her ability to teach, only the maturity of the kids. She shouldn't be punished because a kid stole her phone and share the pics. Now if she had posted them it would be a slightly different story.

Yeah it's ridiculous really, but it's the kind of job market we're in. There's probably 50 teacher's college graduates just waiting for her job so it's no big deal for the school to fire her if they wanted to. Employers can get away with firing people at will for the most mundane things as there's always going to be tons of applicants to fill the positions.

Personally as much as I think it's stupid to just keep nude pictures of yourself lying around, what someone does on their spare time should not affect their job. But sadly not how it works, and social media allows companies to see even more deeply into your personal life even if you don't post stuff yourself.
