I browsed a few News site but since the qualifications don't make many headlines in the US, I thought I might as well post the list. Switzerland got its ticket this evening (local time) after a 2:0 win/4:2 loss in the barrage against Turkey :)

Poland
Portugal
Sweden
Serbia-Montenegro

Switzerland
Spain
Czechia
Croatia

WTF! Turkey is not going....it's unfortunate since they played so well at the last world cup and Australia...is not a duh! since they had to play Uruguay in order to classify.

Oh, I see... The paper I have this list from got it wrong, I didn't know that Oceania has just 0.5 slots.

It's bad luck for Turkey. They played badly in the first game but were strong in the second. Emotions were high in Istanbul... The Swiss players left the field immediately after the end of the game, they had to wait for hours at the airport checkpoint, and one of them is in a hospital at the moment because he was attacked in the corridors of the stadion. I wonder if Turkey will face consequences for this.

spain qualified over slovakia today

all the qualifications are done.

group stage draw will be in december

the .5 slot for Oceana was a playoff against uruguay, which Aussies won after penalties

Not a surprising list...perhaps that China didn't qualify is a little unexpected to me.

Personally, I'll be rooting for Germany. I mean, I'll root for the US...but let's be realistic, they don't have a chance in hell. OTOH, of course we at least made it.

I expect the finals to consist one of the usuals like Italy, Brazil, Germany, etc...though I'd love an upset.

I'll be going for Italy and America, though if I had to choose, it'd probably be Italy. I do love my home country, but hey, fans don't have to be rational.

Brazil have to be overwhelming favorites. Ronaldinho, Ronaldo, Robinho, Julio Baptista, Kaka, Juninho, Adriano, Diego, the list goes on and on.

Hope the US can get a couple of wins though and make it at least to the knockout stages.

Ireland anyone? They usually have a good team, WTF.
they were in a tough qualifying group with France, Switzerland, and Israel (surprisingly). And in their final match they could have made a playoff, but they were missing their two best players (Roy Keane, Damien Duff). No luck of the Irish this time ;)

African soccer is in bad shape at the moment, therefor the surprising qualifications.

You can look at the results of the qualification round here.

I'm rooting for Switzerland but I'll keep an eye on the African newcomers :)

Not sure who will win it, there is a good few teams like Brazil, England, Holland, Spain, Argies. Havent seen much of African or North American squads.

We deserved to go out after not gettin a win in either of the Israel games (which we had in the bag). Plus the last match against the Swiss at home wasn't anything special either, even tho they were missing key players in the game.
