Why do you want to watch a video of someone dying?

Wow, one punch and you're dead. Crazy. Makes you think before you get into a conflict.

That is very sad and soccer is a dangerous sport. My coach used to say go in strong or come out hurt. You don't go all the way and you can break your legs / etc. I remember a kid on my team broke his jaw in a game once.

Dying though, that seriously sucks.

He wasn't punched, he basically collided with the goal keeper. It's not that hard to imagine when you think about the amount of concentrated force coming down on your heart/chest. Broken ribs can spear through your internals, you can knock you hearts rhythm out of whack, etc...

I remember the Columbian guy that knocked a ball in his own goal and made his team lose. He got killed when he got back to Columbia.

I am 6'0" tall and 185lbs. Imagine me running full speed towards you and turning sideways and hitting you square in the chest with my shoulder, right in the stomach with my elbow and right around the nether regions with my hip. Afterwards I am standing over you like a linebacker over a sacked QB.

That's what I did to the last guy who contested a ball in front of my goal... :D

Yup, it's quite possible he died of commotio corids, which is basically arrhythmia (usually ventricular fibrillation) caused by low-impact, blunt trauma to the chest without penetration. Not enough details, though

Wow, I knew neither that you played soccer or that those kinds of actions were legal in soccer. They weren't when I played as a kid

You have to be going for the ball. Unless you are catching the ball sideways, it would never be legal for you to slam your elbow/shoulder into someones chest. It's been awhile since I played/reffed so I'm not sure if you'd get red carded or yellow carded.

IE: only legit instance. Someone is coming in to head a ball that a winger just put in from the corner, hes jumping in and the goalee is leaping out sideways to make the catch. That is the only circumstance where your shoulder might nail a players chest.

I play in a men's league in North NJ.

You are going for a ball and I am going for a ball. We are on a collision course. As long as we are both going for the ball, there shouldn't be a foul. I was a little more committed to the tackle than him and was smart enough to turn and protect myself.

Youth soccer in America isn't real soccer, its a horribly sanitized version invented to make kids and parents alike feel good about the benefits of teamwork and physical fitness.

I remember once during practice our Goalie was sick, and so a defender who never really played volunteered to play for practice. He didn't know what he was doing and dove head first at the ball and didn't protect himself. Got kicked in the jaw and had it broke in 4 places. Had to have it wired and could talk for a long time after that :p

It's too bad that the attitude that goes along with real-world soccer is a horrible abortion of playing-for-blood.

I played goalie in H.S. Of course,if you go up for a ball, you always bring your knee up to protect yourself. I used to have a video of me catching a guy under the chin in the middle of that manuever ... lifted him off his feet. It's always good to knock somebody on their a$$ early in the game ... it tends to give you a little more room to work :p. Of course, they're looking for the cheap shot on you from there out. I got nailed in the ribs 4th quarter of that game. It was after the play, the guy got red-carded but I was out.

Goalies tend to get the bennifet of the doubt. At least that's been my experience. Of course maybe I was just always cut slack 'cause I was typically one of the smallest guys on the field. ;) I've laid out my fair share of people and only once did I get called. I play clean, but I also play very, very hard (which was a must considering my size).

In regards to your hypothetical situation, assuming there isn't a big difference in height no one needs to jump for a keeper's shoulder to end up in a forward's chest. Any situation that puts the ball between waist and head high could lead to it. A bad touch or bad bounce that makes the ball go up 3-5 feet off the ground for example. The attacker has to stop long enough for the ball to come back down (assuming heading, chesting, and/or kneeing just aren't options) which gives the charging keeper a green light to snag the ball out of air and plow thru the poor attacker standing in the box.
