SoCal USAF bases: Need a list.

I need a list of Southern California area US Air Force bases. You know, the ones they fly planes out of 😉

Umm... Why would you be needin' that information? <looks REALLY close at EyeMWing>

Los Angeles AFB. I'm screwed if they close that base. But yeah, basically that and Edwards that I can think of.

Yea, LAAFB. Spent 4 years there. No airplanes though.
I think they are going to have a hard time avoiding BRAC.
What do you do there NutBucket?

I don't work on the base but my job/company is/are closely connected to whether the base leaves or stays.

All I could remember are Edwards, LA and Miramar.

I seem to remember some sort of logistics base about half way as the crow flies between LA and Vegas (i.e. bumfvck nowhere) from MS Flight Sim, but can't remember if it's USN or USAF.

Anyway, as for why I need to know, a friend of a friend is going in and wants to know for whatever reason. Heh.

I think with all the construction they are planning there, and the seismic retrofits required + cost of living, realignment with space command, etc. that they will have an uphill battle in BRAC, especially in a republican congress. My guess is they'll move SMC to Colorado Springs or Albequerque. Maybe Denver.

FWIW, in my personal opinion (I'm not allowed any other kind in this matter), it would be a good thing for the Air Force ... clear out some of the dead wood and gut the aquisition system at the same time.

Don't need to hear that right now ergeorge. My goal is to finish school before the sh!t hits the fan. Course, ideally I'd like for the sh!t not to hit the fan at all. BTW, the construction isn't planned its already underway. The framework for the new building(s) is going up pretty quick.

Well, you've at least got until 3rd quarter 05 for the announcement IIRC, and will take likely a few years after that to actually implement. So you likely have plenty of time.

On the construction ... wow. I haven't been out there in a few months. This is the Area B work, right? IIRC, they are giving area A to some developer, in exchange for some of the construction costs to rebuild the base on Area A. I'm sure they are rushing it so they can tell the BRAC people "Look, we've already spent all this money rebuilding the base ...."

BRAC does not care about spent $$$ if they have already tagged the base onto the short list.
The $$$ are considered gone and the enhancements will benift a guard unit or the civilian sector that uses/inherits the base afterwards.

yea, I guess that's true. But they do care about needed capital expenditures, so it's in the best interest of LAAFB to get the work done ASAP.

Don't know that I would call Vandenberg SoCal ... more like central coast. But arguable I guess. That one should be BRAC safe.

Area B work started last November (after a potentially damaging lawsuit was settled). Yes, the land that now houses the base will become developed (housing) and be transferred to the city of Hawthorne.

Have they had any environmental issues when they started digging up area B?? That used to be a Northrupp plant ... built P38s there during WWII IIRC. Anyway, I remember there being talk when I was there that they didn't dare dig up area B due to all the potential environmental issues (ie. chemical waste) they would encounter.

As somebody in CE said to me "There's a reason the whole damn place is paved."

City of Hawthorne??? The base address is El Segundo. I thought Hawthorne city limits were a few blocks east.

I don't recall hearing about any enviro issues. And to my knowledge, Hawthorne city limits are on the other side of the 405. I'm not sure how it's going to work but I do know that's what's happening with the land from the current base.
