DAMN

Is that second little chute the black box?

No, his lunch box.

Man... so if you're the lifeguard on that beach... what the hell goes through your mind after that? Woulda made a nice Baywatch episode.

Edit: Looks like he lands right on top of the tail of the jet... ouch.

Woah! I was amazed nobody was even really paying attention to it until it crashed. Had I been a kid my eyes would have been trained on the thing until it scooted off out of site.

I can't imaging how loud that would be.

It's not every day you get to see 20 million dollars worth of goverment equipment belly flop into the ocean.

Not to mention that one little dickhead kid that's NOT looking at the jet is splashing water into the one kid's face who is trying to watch it. Man I HATE that!

Why is it idling in the air there for the first 5 seconds?

Ever play Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty? You have to fight a Harrier in that. At one point it just starts hovering over you in midair, killing you with its exhaust. Man I hated fighting that boss.

Because it's a harrier.

yah, harriers can hover. True Lies is on TV occasionally, watch it sometime and you'll see Arnold fly one 🙂

Now I want to know more about it... what went wrong on the jet, and if he suffered any broken bones from smacking into the tail fin of the jet. How they extracted the jet from the water afterwards...

Think about the complications your body will have after ejecting. Look at how had that seat shot the pilot up. Can't be good for the old spine.

The former Dean of Engineering at Tulane while I was there did research for the Navy on the impact of ejection seats on the spine and neck. Very interesting stuff.
