I was in Reno, and playing nickel slots, for about 45 mins, when some old man
asked me for some ID.

I handed him my drivers license, and he looked at it for like 30 seconds.

He says,uh you are going to have to leave.

I go Huh??
Your only 17,you have to be 21 to gamble.

LOL you look young?

Try working a door/bouncer job for just one weekend at ANY place that serves alcohol, and you'll understand why he acts that way.

Give the guy a break, he's just doing his job. All he does all day is take sh!t from people.

Two things don't sound right about your story:
1. You misplaced your driver's license? How do you do that? Don't you ever drive? Don't you keep it in your wallet?
2. Why do you have a state ID card? There's no need to have one if you have a driver's license. Why do you apparantly carry that in your wallet but not your driver's license?

You could have just said, "Yes, I do." Doesn't mean you have to give it to him.

I'd say that neither one of you is a jackass. You didn't make a scene. You just left. He didn't do anything wrong by asking you if you had a driver's license, even though you don't need one in this case.

You probably could have gotten in if you'd wanted to.

I just got the impression he was being nosy and rude. and looking over my ID like I was some terrorist. I mean what if I did lose my DL for some reason?? Is it his concern or business? His job is to ID people and let them be.

Thats why I just asked for my ID card back and left. I know I could've got on if I wanted to, But why patronize a place of business if they hassle you??

No, he was looking over your ID card like perhaps it was dog-earred and he thought you were underage. Not uncommon to ask for a second form of ID, if they're suspicious. Don't take it so personally.

At an airport they were fine looking at my College ID no questions asked. I somehow handed them that when I meant to give them my driver's license.

Pardon me for being an underage drinking noob... but what does it mean if your ID is dog-eared? (I know what dog-eared means, I just don't know how that applies to IDs)

Yep. If you were underage and they got raided, or something happened, they would be in deep doo-doo. He probably doesn't see many ID cards, so he asked for a form of ID he was more familiar with. If you were nicer about it, he probably would have had someone else check it out for you and let you in.

BS he doesn't. He sees plent of ID cards. They are the EXACT same as a Drivers License. They just say ID CARD on them instead of Drivers License.

He was just trying to be the police and but his nose in my business and try to be little me in front of other people. I have a license and always have but its none of his business. Plus they have a BIG book with every states ID card and DL pictures for refrence.

Yes I misplaced my DL. I'm disorganized and i'm always being asked for my id. And I have a bad habit of not always putting it right back in my wallet!!!! If I was to get pulled over then its not a big frickin deal hear. I'd just hand them my ID card and let him run my name and number. SIMPLE!!!!

I have an id card because once my DL got took for a speeding ticket. They hold it as your bond you know!!! And ID cards are good to have. They expire every 10 years!!!

How many state ID cards does this guy probably come across? Almost none.

It's _his_ butt on the line if he lets someone in who shouldn't be. Why shouldn't he be able to ask for the form of ID he's most familiar with? From his perspective, he has a much better chance of spotting a fake DL than he does a fake state ID, so if you have you DL it's much less risk to his job if he checks that instead.

Of course, that's just the logical way of looking at it.

there is virtually no difference!!!! And as many DUI's and people get. I'm sure he comes across PLENTY of id cards. I could imagine all the people walking on the casino. Not all have a drivers license. So I'm sure he sees plenty. Just by the way he said it and looked over my ID card. He wasn't just doin his job.

Which is total bullsh!t. I bought like 6 beers the other night at a concert, and then I go to this different line and the lady is like your ID is invalid. I thought she was kidding! She said my holograms were rubbed off, so she couldn't sell to me, yet that she thought it was a valid ID so she let my friend buy it for me. Really fvcked up as I never get carded, but this was one of those deals with NO ID no Beer.
Thats why I just asked for my ID card back and left. I know I could've got on if I wanted to, But why patronize a place of business if they hassle you??

So when he asked if I had a DL, I just stuck out my hand and asked for my ID card back. Stuck it in my wallet and left.

I just wanna know. Am I the jackass or is the nosy security guard??[/quote]

Don't stop there! You've got them right where you want them! Write a letter to the owner of the casino and tell them that if they do not fire the security guard you will never be back, and you will also tell not only everyone you know, but also everyone you meet from hereon out not to go to this casino. In this way, not only you, but everyone you know will be able to pass the word on to everyone in their network to AVOID THIS CASINO because of the clown they've hired as security. It's only a matter of time before their expenses exceed their profit. If you want, you can even skip the letter and go straight to putting the casino out of business. You'll show them!

I was carded while I was already in the casino for a good half hour. I frequent there on a regular basis and most of the employees know my face already. If they were to check they should've asked for it at the entrance, not while I'm alrady inside. Took it as a compliment and gladly gave him my ID 🙂 I'm 25 and he thought I was under 18! Woot! 😀

Self esteem points ++

Does it bother you THAT much that he asked for your DL? Why the hell didn't you just say "sorry, i don't have it with me"...why did you have to think you were better than him? What a tard....go to a casino, but leave b/c you want to make a big deal out of nothing.

I always wondered how people like you live their daily lives if things like this bug you so much. idiot. esad if you missed it the first time.

I think you're over reacting. He gets paid $7/hr to check people's IDs...who f'ing cares. Just say, "hey, fvck that guy" and move on.

Na, normally I wouldn't mind. But its the whole way he went about doing it. Looking over my perfect condition ID card and then snootily asking "Don't you have a DL?". Like he was better than me or he was trying to bust me out. You just had to be there to see it and how he was just scoping over my ID like I'm bad news.

Card me, and let me in the dang joint. Don't card me, question me, and act all snooty.

The casinos here in Shreveport will swipe your drivers license through the card reader, then they will place it in a machine that takes a photograph of it. They did that to me one time and it pissed me off so much that I wouldn't go on the boat if they asked me for my ID. I haven't been on one of the boats in years, so they might have changed their procedure now. They probably rip some hair out now for a DNA sample.

Yeah thats the same way it is here. they scan your id and take your picture. its really getting a little too personal and a hassle. then to make it worse you have asshats like I ran into.

No, they just save the data into an unencrypted file, with complete and total access to all employees. Computer is probably hooked to the net as well, with the database files having no password, sitting in the main web root.

Laws about this kind of sh!t need to be passed.

Tonight I was carded to get in a casino. I normally do get carded so thats no big deal but...

I handed the guy my state ID card. I misplaced my DL at the time so I'm just using my ID card. No big deal.

But this guy. He whips out his glasses. Looks over my ID card like there is something wrong with it. Then looks at me and asks me. "Don't you have a drivers license?" Now I do have a valid DL. Always have. But what does it matter?

It really piss'ed me off that he was sticking his nose in my business and not just doing his job. I know for a FACT that ID cards work just as well as DL's do if your carded.

So when he asked if I had a DL, I just stuck out my hand and asked for my ID card back. Stuck it in my wallet and left.

I just wanna know. Am I the jackass or is the nosy security guard??

In most states its illegal to have an id card and a drivers license.

Here in Illinois it is VERY common for people to have both an state ID and a state drivers license. Many times the police will take your license when you get a traffic ticket, and you need an ID to get into places. The Ticket is supposed to become your ID until you pay your fine. However, most bars will not accept a ticket alone.

Just about any person who gets carded a lot, AND has had a speeding ticket, has both an ID and a DL in Illinois.
