I try to stay out of the whole mac vs pc thing, but mac commercials are a lot worse than the Mojave commercials. The Mojave commercials are promoting Windows, while the mac commercials are mostly bashing pcs.

It's outperforms the mac in every way, by a long shot. In every category, w/e test you want, my PC which is cheaper and will outperform the mac. I have a quad-core, a HD4870, which macs couldn't even dream of having until years after release, and a larger HDD.

Quicktime is bullshit, VLC can play more formats using less resources with better performance, thats why it's crapware.

Thats why we get shit for performance from macs for insane prices. look at above post, my PC absolutely destroys/dominates/annihilates the mac for a cheaper price.

I downloaded the upcoming best buy added from hot deals and a quick glance shows:

Macbook - $999 for 2.1Ghz 1 GB Ram 120 GB HDD Crappy Integrated Video (intel x 3100)
Dell XPS X1330 -$899 for 2.1 Ghz 4 GB Ram 320 GB HDD Crappy, but much better integrated video (geforce 8400)

So you pay $100 less and you get much better specs. This is straight from Best Buy as well, it doesn't even consider all the deals you can get through hot deals and coupons that are always floating around.

-watching MKV files isn't my issue, it is converting them into a file format usable on my PS3. The big software companies like divx don't make stuff like this, it is left up to community developers to fill in the gaps and they usually only develop for windows. Also there is a lot of business software, not office or photoshop but in house developed software that people can work on at home, that simply won't run on a mac.

-call it an ipod then, i still don't get the obsession with letting the world know exactly which apple product you own.

-I sort of can put a PS3 in my pocket, it's called a PSP 😉 Granted the graphics aren't nearly as good and I can't figure out how to play a blu ray on it. 😛 But the argument still holds since the PSP has received a number of free firmware downloads that have added significant features. As for the Zune downloading podcasts, the Zune doesn't come with a built in web browser. You might as well ask me if my microwave can download podcasts. 😛

Did you build it with everything built into the monitor? That's one big draw of the iMacs. Plus, If you're going to use the building argument, configure it with base stats and add the new memory and HDD yourself. Super easy to do, and nothing you wouldn't do while building your mac. Show me the price of something pre-built (i.e. not something you build yourself) and then we can talk.

to be fair, only suckers add the extra memory as an option. $225 for 4 GB!! You can get it for $50 after market and installed for another $50 if you don't want to do it yourself.

$1200 for the mac that way, and If i had cut corners on my build I could have cut the price to that point, with the same core components. And so far as having the parts built into the monitor, I fail to see how having terrible airflow which reduces the ability of my components to perform is a "big draw".

Give me a sec, I'll go configure a prebuilt.

Okay, so I'll concede on the price for Best Buy, but that same laptop directly from dell is more expensive. I do think Apple should have more promotional pricing than they do currently.

I stream files to my PS3 just fine from my MacBook, there are plenty of software programs out there that will do this.

That's fine if you call it an ipod, I don't care one bit. But adding one word to the end doesn't signify the end of the world. iTouch is just ridiculous.

And I'm not sure I get your analogy with the microwave, you don't use the web browser to download podcasts on my ipod, which does have wifi. So since the zune doesn't have wifi, doesn't it fail automatially?

I have itunes/quicktime installed on my desktop (vista) and still have no issues with it asking me to install bloatware/crapware.

-I'm in Southeast Michigan as well and I see way more Mac vs PC commercials. I think i've seen a Mojave commercial about four times. Granted, I DVR just about everything I watch so I don't see many commercials anymore so the point is moot.

-Streaming never works well for me as converting and loading the file on a usb disk does, but you are getting bogged down in the specifics of the MKV issue. The point is that the smaller community developers and the in house business software is usually done only for windows.

- I'll just call it a touch then, but then I might confuse people who think I'm talking about my cell phone (Touch Diamond) 😉

-The microwave analogy implies that a product not designed to do a function or doesn't have the setup to complete that function shouldn't be penalized. The ipod touch has a wifi and a web browser, so I should be able to browse to 1up.com, download a podcast, and listen to it right then and there. The Zune has wifi only, how do I get to 1up? Sure, MSFT could have designed additional software to do this, but they didn't and I knew that going in, so I'm not going to penalize them. I can use the wifi to download the podcast from another zune user IIRC. Apple has all of the tools already built into the touch to do this, so they should be able to do this. You said it was added as a firmware update, that's great, now can you tell me how to do it without paying $10? Don't get me wrong, I LOVE my Ipod Touch, I use it more than any mp3 player i've ever owned (including the Zune) When in a Wifi area, I will ALWAYS choose to use my touch over my Cell Phone's Wifi. The web browser is absolutly fantastic. I just can't stand iTunes.

as for the updates, all I can guess is that you installed all of them when you first installed quicktime, so thats why it doesnt prompt you.

Rig below, cost? ~1400$ when I built it, probably lower now.

It's outperforms the mac in every way, by a long shot. In every category, w/e test you want, my PC which is cheaper and will outperform the mac. I have a quad-core, a HD4870, which macs couldn't even dream of having until years after release, and a larger HDD.

Did you build it with everything built into the monitor? That's one big draw of the iMacs. Plus, If you're going to use the building argument, configure it with base stats and add the new memory and HDD yourself. Super easy to do, and nothing you wouldn't do while building your mac. Show me the price of something pre-built (i.e. not something you build yourself) and then we can talk.

How about you stop trying to dismiss the advantages of a PC over a MAC, such as reduced cost & greater flxibility when building your own.

Can't believe you are arguing price, of ALL the arguements of PC vs MAC that's the one you have the least chance of winning.

Have you seen any of the mp4 players available in the world market? Ipod is overpriced garbage by comparision lol....

I try to stay out of the whole mac vs pc thing, but mac commercials are a lot worse than the Mojave commercials. The Mojave commercials are promoting Windows, while the mac commercials are mostly bashing pcs.

I like the iPod Touch's wifi/Safari/internet combo. It works quite well. Other devices can't do a good job like it.

But Windows > mac, nuff said.
 
Why even have this argument? Some people like Apple and most like PC. And no apple fanboi can deny it, building a PC adds tons more of flexibility than having an Apple, hands down. If you disagree you need to get your trendy head out of your ass.

Back when the commercial was on, it was true that the PowerPC was >> Pentium II in terms of speed. Which was 15 years ago

as for the updates, all I can guess is that you installed all of them when you first installed quicktime, so thats why it doesnt prompt you.

Maybe it's a cable thing, as I only have OTA here, but I'm just not seeing the apple commercials.

I'm not sure what is problematic for you on your PS3 then, pluggin in the USB with files from a mac? Not all media files played in windows play well with the PS3 either. Some from the Mac play well with PS3. If you use anything for long enough you find what works well and what doesn't.

I just browed the iTunes store, typed in 1Up and got a bunch of podcasts I can download. But with the cost thing, it's always been interesting that people who buy a $200-300 MP3 player won't pay $10 to increase the functionality of it. Especially since it's fixing all of the issues you're complaining about.

And no, I didn't install any of them when I first installed Quicktime, I do know how to deselect options like that.

I've conceded the price issue for the most part, but that's still what most people are claiming as the deciding factor as to why apple "sucks." In that case, I think a lexus "sucks" because I have to pay so much more for what I can get from ford!
 
I mainly dislike Macs because they charge so damn much for what is just a regular PC with OSX installed. And so many people buy into the hype about how it's some sort of special computer "for you" that it just makes me want to cry.

When a normal PC component is installed in a Mac, people seem to think that makes it "better."

I have been running desktops for years and they've been working fine - as long as you keep a fresh (reinstall every year or so), clean system, you won't have very many problems that you can't attribute to problems with third-party software or hardware. Windows really isn't that bad - it's just that most Windows users (the majority of computer users) don't know how to use their computer.

I agree with this. That's why I will always build my desktops. But some people do not need this functionality. Some people here are fanbois of a different type, the "I can build my own computer and save TONZZ of moneyz doing it. Apple must suck then because I can build it cheaper than they can!" type.

But liking one thing over another is different than saying all things of xx type suck. To me it's a personal preference, and you have to weigh the options. But I'm sure if you want to keep arguing that Apples suck, I will have nothing to say that can convince you. You'll keep arguing the price, the flexibility.

You're missing the point that charging for firmware updates is nothing more than nickle-and-diming your customers, and is not standard in the industry.

It sucks.

That argument would be justified if Apple products were any better than any other PC. The quality difference is in your head. The same can not be said about Ford v. Lexus.
