So will there be a Pacquiao vs. Mayweather fight?

I'm not sure.

Afflicted with Parkinson's disease, no doubt brought on by his own many ring wars, Mr. Pacquiao's longtime trainer Freddie Roach has the odd quality of seeming to be unable to lie. He told me that the fight with Mr. Hatton would be an easy one. He also confessed that a return match with Mr. Marquez would be challenging, because "Marquez is so smart and tough and knows how to fight lefties." After the bout, the three-time Trainer of the Year revealed: "Floyd is afraid of Manny. If he had waited 24 hours, we could have made a fight with him right away."

So it seems that Mayweather might be too afraid of Pac Man to fight him. So what do ya think, will it happen or not?

Mayweather will need a HUGE payday, because most likely it will destroy his brand.

Agreed. That fight will be his last hurrah and then pass on the torch to Pacquiao. The day after the fight the name Mayweather will only be a figment of our imagination.

In the next 24 hours, negotiations will commence to arrange the biggest fight in boxing: Manny Pacquiao vs. Floyd Mayweather.

The former mythical pound-for-pound king before he took an almost two-year hiatus in 2007 — Mayweather — against the current one, an action hero who already is the greatest Asian fighter in history and one of the all-time greats from any era in any weight class.

After Saturday's shocking destruction of Miguel Cotto via 12th-round knockout, Pacquiao (50-3-2, 38 KOs) has earned a share of the lineal welterweight championship and picked up a major belt in his seventh different weight class.

Monday, Mayweather called out Pacquiao, saying the fighter has not come out and actually said he wants to fight Mayweather.

"Manny Pacquiao is the fighter and every time someone asks him if he wants to fight me, he says it is up to his promoter, he's going to take a vacation, whatever the answer is," Mayweather said. "I have yet to hear him actually say, 'yes I want to fight Mayweather.' We are the fighters and if one fighter is talking about fighting another fighter, then they should just come out and say it. Manny Pacquiao doesn't say anything directly about fighting me because he might just know it's not a fight he can win."

Said Bob Arum, chairman of Top Rank, which promotes the Filipino and formerly promoted Mayweather: "All you have to know is that my fighter and his trainer Freddie Roach have gone on record saying they're happy to fight Mayweather. Hopefully we'll be able to put this together," he said. "The one thing I'm not going to do, and the only thing that's going to kill this, is to negotiate through the newspapers. If that happens and egos get in the way, the fight might not happen. From our side, we're willing."

While Mayweather has been reluctant to say he wants to fight Pacquiao, even after his decision win against Juan Manuel Marquez in September, he's been vocal about Arum and suggests the promoter is afraid of putting Pacquiao in the ring with him.

"You know that isn't true," Arum says. "Maybe I prefer not to deal with him. But if your fighter wants a fight, you deal. Mayweather is not one of my favorite people and I'm sure I'm not one of his. What difference does that make?

"If we were talking about some match on (HBO's) Boxing After Dark, then you can have plenty of spite and no one loses very much on a fight not being made. In this case it's more than just the money. It's the fact that boxing is on a roll. It's doing great. If this fight doesn't happen it hurts the momentum of the sport and that does a disservice to the sport. I'm keenly aware of that."

The undefeated Mayweather says he just wants to hear the words come from Pacquiao that he wants to fight.

"Tell Manny Pacquiao to be his own man and stop letting everyone, including his loudmouth trainer (Freddie Roach), talk for him," said Mayweather. "I am my own boss, speak for myself and tell it like it is. If Manny Pacquiao wants to fight me, all he has to do is step up to the plate and say it himself."

Wow....HOPING this happens. Mayweather will earn a shitload of money for this win or lose.

If Mayweather could box as much as he'd talk, no one would make it past the 1st round with him.

LOL.
He is not a very likable person, but he is the best of our time no doubt. Skills not seen since Sugar Ray Robinson. Pac is a great great fighter, but Mayweather is faster, has better defense, and in this fight he is BIGGER. If they fight, which is a given I believe, Mayweather wins with a clear decision 8 rounds to 4. Two great fighters, at their peak, always take the bigger of the two. Mayweather with all his speed will have a 5 inch reach advantage over Pacman. Thats a lot.

If this fight happens, my prediction is that Mayweather goes down by the 5th round. Mayweather is all talk and never faced the caliber of opponent that Pacquiao or De La Hoya has.

I don't know where that comes from. He has beaten some of the best in those weight classes in recent memory

Genaro Hernandez
Angel Manfredy
Diego Corales
2 decisions over Castillo
Gatti
Zab Judah
Baldomir
De La Hoya
Hatton
And he recently rung up Marquez (who gave Pac all he could handle)

And all those fighters were at or near the top of their game except Gatti, who I believe was shot, and De La Hoya has not been a great fighter for maybe the last 7-8 years. He has beaten some damn good fighters.

Pac is such a nice guy and great fighter. But like I said about Marquez, the same goes for Pac, PBF is more skilled and bigger. Size is a lot when two guys have near equal skills. I just think he is too big now for guys like Marquez and Pac.

is my sarcasm meter broke?? Floyd just demolished Marquez, a guy who was robbed of a win the first time he fought Manny, and the 2nd time it was very close. Mayweather didn't give him a single round, Manny squeaked by both times to beat him. Manny's best opponent was DLH, but it was basically a fight DHL only took for the money. He was far past his prime and knew he was going to lose. In his prime DHL beats Manny without much effort. Floyd has more fights, and has beaten better fighters. Who's Manny fought that's better than Floyds opponents? Manny hasn't even fought Judah, Gatti, Castillo. He Looking at Mannys record and who he's faced your statement make zero sense. Cotto is a legit win, and many of his others are too, but Mayweather has the better boxing resume hands down. DHL has faced the best of the 3, but he lost to the best he fought in Mosley & Hopkins.

People can hate Floyd all they want, he purposely tries to get people to hate him. But he's better than Manny on every level. While Manny could beat him, it would be a punchers chance. Mayweather is the best boxer of the last 20 years, sans maybe Roy Jones Jr. It's doubtful we'll ever see anyone as good as him, Manny's great but he isn't on Prettyboy's level. Manny also has loses where Floyd doesn't. And Manny's loses aren't like DHL where he lost to a super elite fighter like Mosley or Hopkins.

Mayweather isn't scared of anyone, he just wants the most money he can get. Manny won't beat him unless a miracle happens. The fight will go the distance with Prettyboy winning 9-10 of 12 rounds and never being in danger. If anyone here is scared it would be Manny, not saying he is. But I know he knows Mayweather is bigger, stronger and even faster. What tools does he have left? He has heart but heart won't win a fight against someone who has everything you got.

Great fights are first won in the mind of the fighter. Bring it on! Manny possesses tremendous mental discipline. He'll just ramp himself up a couple notches and it's over for Mayweather.

fail, nobody ramps themselves up a couple notches like Mayweather. I would agree with your statement *IF* both fighters were basically equal. Not the case here though, so you're telling me because Manny tells himself "I can beat Floyd!" he can? Mayweather is bigger, stronger and faster. All the hope in the world isn't going to magically make him a better fighter. Mayweather truely believes he's unbeatable, so if great fights are won in the mind of the fighter. Mayweather wins on the mental level too.

Manny loses another fight and Mayweather stays undefeated. I'll save my $$$ and bet as much as I can on Floyd. No amount of mental discipline will make Pacquiao a superior fighter. But guess what? He'll still be one of the top ranked fighters. I suspect he loses and they have a rematch in a few years which he loses, in between the 2 fights Floyd beats Mosley. After Manny Vs Floyd II he reties undefeated and possibly considered the greatest fighter of all time. He's only 2 fights away from that title. Mosley & Manny IMHO. Mosley in his prime would have beaten Floyd but I think today stands little chance, he'll do it for the money though. Manny loses both fights, there's no other outcome here.

manny vs mayweather I ... manny by decision ... on the second time around, mayweather wins decisively.

btw, are there any clips on mayweather's fight, I want to see some of his clips and witness the greatness. I did watch manny's fight vs cotto and was impressed.

FWIW, JL Castillo the guy who knocked down Mayweather and many thought beat Mayweather was the sparring partner of Manny for the Cotto fight. Castillo said that Pac WAS FASTER and HITS HARDER than Mayweather. He has such an unorthodox style hitting you from all angles that it'll give anyone trouble. I don't think Mayweather can hurt Pac, while Pac can hurt Mayweather. Mayweather will just run, use his reach advantage and try to win on the score card but I can see Pac just trying to rush in and try to trade with him.
