So why would an employee all of a sudden start parking a block down the street?

On our way back from lunch yesterday my coworker pointed out to me that he noticed someone at our company started parking a block down the street in a store lot. There is no shortage of space in our lot. I said maybe that person wanted a little exercise and decided to park farther. His suggestion was that the van is getting repo'd.

What do you guys think?

Repo'd is a good guess. Or when he gets out of the car, dubious amounts of smoke pour out of the door.

They probably pissed someone off and that someone knows where they work. Safety precaution to not be parked in an expected spot?

Someone is after him or his car, crazy stalker girlfriend, or he has a friend/family member who works at the store and drops them off then walks.

I've known several people who have done this in the past.

One guy did not want his boss to know whether or not he was at work or not. His boss had the habit of looking in the parking lot to check if people were there.

Another guy I knew did not want people at work to know that he drove around in a panel van all painted up with semi-graphic pictures on it :).

He might have a jealous husband looking for him or a pissed off woman and does not want his property damaged.

He might be tired of his dumb ass co-workers dinging his door panels or maybe they're just nosy and annoying and he got tired of them snooping. Maybe his car is getting old and he doesn't want you guys to see his car problems. Maybe his wife gets lost easily so he leaves his car there as a marker. Maybe he always stops at the same coffee shop before or after work and he might as well park there. Maybe he works a second job down the street. Maybe he carpools with his wife and she works there. Maybe he is sleeping with the receptionist and they don't want to be seen getting into the same car in the employee parking lot. Why does it matter?

Does he take the tag off when he leaves it? If so, REPO. Otherwise, go to security and report a suspicious vehicle with tag # [whatever] parked illegally and you'd like to know who's it is. You might get a name. Make something up. When they look, just tell them the car was there but it isn't anymore.

why? is there some sort of force field a block away that prevents the repo man from taking the car?

The repoman only knows to look where he is told to look. Why risk damaging someone else's property or grabbing the wrong car?
