So why the propeller-head?

I've never understood this. Why is the standard mythical headgear accessory for a geek the propeller-hat?

It's older than overclocking isn't it?

I believe it's as follows: Typically, the average geek gets less exercise than most healthy active people, which, when added with a large junk food (i.e. fat) intake, tends to result in the greater occurrence of obesity. To counter the increased gravitational force exerted upon bodies of larger mass, the propeller-hat was developed using aerodynamic principles pioneered by both Leonardo da Vinci and Igor Sikorsky to provide lift. While this does nothing to improve the aesthetic appeal of the pasty-white socially challenged individual, it does provide significant engineering benefit.

Astaroth33: you're either one hell of a BSer, or that's the funniest answer i've ever heard.

Many thanks for your most insightful response. However I note a small flaw. Since to allow the unpowered propeller to spin, you must be generating sufficient forwards airflow to allow the propeller to generate upwards lift, we are looking at the propeller-hat as more of an autogyro. Am I correct in assuming that an additional mode of power is required to fully realize the benefits of the propeller-cap? Something which provides thrust in the horizontal vector - a powered butt-propeller-cap perhaps?

I always thought it came from the old Beany and Cecil cartoons. The geek kid had a hat like that.

Much like seals in the arctic, obesity in humans produces a subcutaneous layer of blubber which acts as an effective insulator, thus trapping large quantities of heat. One can see this principle in action by observing the grossly obese excercising: a significant amount of perspiration is produced in an attempt to bring body temperature down to a comfortable level. A strong heat source has a notable effect upon the immediate environment, producing a thermal updraft in the surrounding atmosphere. This upwards flow of air causes the propeller to rotate, thus producing the aforementioned lift.

A "powered butt-propeller-cap" would be fueled by different principles: The typical grossly obese dork will consume large amounts of fatty foods in order to maintain the layer of adipose tissue. Often these fatty foods will in the digestion process produce volatile combustible gasses which are expelled by the body in violent odiferous bursts from the anal sphinchter. This provides the needed thrust to drive the propeller cap. Somewhat more effective would be the rocketry principle: As the expelled gasses are largely composed of methane and sulphur and thus are combustible, the addition of an ignition source combined with the natural venturi effect of the anal sphincter will provide far more direct thrust than the propeller (this is paralleled in aviation, where the jet engine has proven superior to propeller-driven aircraft).

Astaroth33 -

You are one sick puppy and/or have way too much time on your hands!

Excellent job!! :) :)
