i messed around with XP pro for a few days , thought it had a great 'gee wiz' factor, but the main reason i have 3 comps is to play games, games , games.
all my hardware worked fine with the upgrade, it installed without a hitch. i was trully pleased. however it didn't improve a damn thing about my gaming. nothing ran better.
some of the kids games , educational stuff mostly but things they like, wouldn't run without a lot of mucking about. and for what ? so supposedly i won't need to reboot if a game or app crashes ? i'm not running a server, once in awhile i need a reason to get up.
even dual booting didn't seem to be worth the trouble.
i trully appreciate MS's help over the years trying to make things easyer, more compatible.
i just think it's going to be a couple years before i "need" to upgrade.

my only comment is that you are right. you probably have no real need for XP. if its working for you, then keep it, if not, go back.....hey wait, were you using 9x??? if so then i retract my previous statement. 😛

9x is the mark of the devil!!!! i'd rather use dosshell!
 
he he i tryed to get on the forums as 666 but it was taken or somthing. some linux users oppinions aside, ( please , i'm not trying to start a flame war. i'm for anyone who thumbs their whatever at "the man ". i'm just lazy ) , what's trully wrong with 9x ?
so i reinstall a couple times a year. i can't say it's just the opp. system. i install\uninstall lots of demos and full games. mess around with new drivers (can you say detonator v23.11 ?). and generally not afraid as i should be about messin with the registry.
it's just not as bad as you would be led to believe just reading posts in here.
 
what's trully wrong with 9x ?

It's hacks and patches upon hacks and patches.
There's no security.
The memory management is laugable.
The networking stack is laughable.
No SMP support.
A single app can take down the whole system.
