So why Microsoft don't make a Processor?

I been wondering lately about why Microsoft don't make PC Processors or even expand to other PC areas beyond Software.

Is it because they don't want to risk more monopoly law suits?

With Micorosft money they could easly start up a Processors factory and development labs.

I guess it is also possible that Microsoft is already unannounced involved with AMD or Intel.
 
Why would they? They are so loaded with cash and lawsuits why would they want to? Plus, if its an MS product there will be a flaw that will be exploited. hehehe. Let them stick with software and mice. Leave the other stuff to companies who really know what they are doing.
 
Well, the PowerPC that IBM is making for them is configured to MS's design goals for the Xbox 2. Is that close enough? 😛
 
i think hte xbox will slowly turn into microsoft's "home and office" computer. as of now, you can basically do everything from surfin the web to online games. IMO, their not that far away from a pc.
 
Who would want one ? 😱 Considering how many bugs MS has in its OS, how would they apply patches 😉 lol
Besides it would only run MS approved apps. 🙁

Processors are hard to make. Microsoft has there brand on other forms of hardware:
Mice, Keyboards, Utlimate TV, WebTV, Media PCs, Wireless kits, etc...

No, the lawsuits were not for being a monopoly, they were for abuse of monopoly power.
So far, MS has not (AFAIK) been charged with abusing there position to sell hardware.

And burn thru it like a hot knife with butter. Chips need chipsets, chipsets need motherboards,
motherboards need cooperation of OEMs to build them to spec. Microsoft was able to make
(and keep) so much money because they let the other guys absorb the R&D cost on hardware.

I guess it is also possible that Microsoft is already unannounced involved with AMD or Intel.

And IBM for G5 processors, and ARM processors for PocketPCs, and various other processors
for embedded devices, and on and on...

Sorry to get off topic here, but that's what I see is going to bring the console market down. Big companies like ms and sony, etc., are constantly trying to turn the consoles ESPECIALLY for their upcoming consoles, into home theater set ups. I want my consoles to play games damn it not give me the blue screen of death. If I'm gonna watch a dvd or something I can use my computer or dvd player. I don't think companies should be focusing on all this extra stuff. I just want a hard care gaming console jeez.
 
Microsoft is not in that business. To make a processor, they would have to acquire a chip maker like AMD or Intel. That's a big mothful, and the government would not let that kind of a monopoly develop.

What the hell kind of thread is this? Heck, why not ask Intel to just make their own operating systems. Why dont AMD make brake lights. We could have Rambus and SCO open up law firms too while we are at it. :roll::laugh::roll:

what's wrong with all in one setups. i'd hate to have a 6 boxes just to have a home theater. it's nice to have it just in one and still enjoy my games. besides i think ur exaggerating the blue screen of death thing. when's the last time ur winxp system bsoded? i've never even had my xbox crash.

intel and MS have an agreement. intel doesnt mess with MS's crap, MS doesnt mess with intel's crap.
 
if they could, and it'd increase their stranglehold on the desktop market, while gaining them share in the server market, they would.


too bad they can't.
