...who said Frodo was the hero?
Gandalf, Aragorn and Samwise were the heros, duh.

You silly fool, read the books and you might really understand. Frodo had an incredible will to be able to fight off the ring as well as he did. Give the ring to Sam and have Frodo be the doting assistant...do you think Sam would still have been the tough, resiliant guy he was in the original story? Of course not. The ring has so much control over people, some people get corrupted by it without even touching it(Boromir). Read. Don't just watch.

ya, but if one HADN'T read the books and ONLY seen the movie i can see how they can come to such a conclusion.

this is why i despised Elijah Wood as frodo soo much.

Which is why I said read the books. The movies are awful in that regard, they don't really tell the story at all like it was originally told. The problem is, it is a well done movie, so people *think* they know what's going on, when in reality they have no idea.

:)

i just wanted to express again how much i despised elijah wood as frodo. it is my single biggest complaint about this series. for example i thought sean astin did a very good job as Sam, mb a bit too good making elijah wood look even more pathetic. :)

Agreed. I was sick of the little bastard by the end of the movie. I was actually hoping he'd fall in even though I'd read the books and knew better.

I think you guys are unhappy with Jackson's Frodo than with Wood. In the book, Frodo did not chose Gollum over Sam. He did not pull his sword on Sam as he did in the movie. For some reason Jackson chose to portray Frodo as he did.

Agreed. I think Jackson's portrayal of Frodo was poorly done. He made a wimp outta Frodo.

But, overall, a great movie.

EDIT: Posted in middle of quote.

I think the movies portrayed Aragorn as the "hero". True Frodo carried the ring, but PJ made him out to be a whiny little bitch and I'm sure it's the reason people hate him. Sam was of course in my mind the true hero, but it's not so obvious. Aragorn was the one to save the hobbies from the Ringwraiths in FOTR, to fend off the Uruk Hai while Frodo escaped in FOTR, he rallied the troops to victory of Helms Deep in TTT, and again in ROTK. He was the one to take the throne of Gondor and the friggin book's anme was based off him. I personally think Sam was the hero becuase without him the voyage would have been screwed, but you can also say that for almost any character in the book/movie.

I don't think Frodo is a hero at all. They all(Fellowship) did what they had to do and that was the only way to accomplish their goal. One person is no more a hero than the other. They all risked their lives to destroy the ring.

Yep.

Frodo sucks. :D

So _that_ is why Sam liked him! :Q

Yeah, I've never read the books. But just from the movies Frodo really came across as a wimpy little cretin. I hated that guy.

I thought Eli Wood did ok as Frodo, his performance just seems weak compared to many of the other performances that were stronger. His performance wasn't a distraction, to me.

isnt the thread title itself a spoiler?

not unless you are retarded.

And, in which case you would not able to read the words "hero, LOTR, spoiler" and would have no idea what the hell it is about.

I don't know if i was secretly asleep during this or not..

but when sam thought frodo was dead..and took his ring...

wasn't he a bit reluctant to give it back to him when he saved him? was it because he doesnt want frodo to give into the evil or was it b/c he wanted to keep it for himself?

I agree that Frodo was a little wimp and since I never liked Elijah Wood to begin with..that made it so much worse. I was actually hoping for Frodo to fall into the mountain with Gollum (no, I had not read the books, and I'm rather glad).

Saying Frodo was in no way a hero is like saying nobody who survived a serious bout with cancer is a hero.

I mean after all, all they did was get infected, fight it, suvive throughout the process, then recover as best as they could.
The doctors and the people who took care of them and paid for the treatments are the true heroes.

But I did hate Elija Wood as Frodo. I can't defend that statement with a "xxxx would've made a WAY better Frodo!", but I really didn't care for him. He seemed like a little boy about to cry in every other scene, while everyone else was doing their best to stay up and continue with the best of their abilities, even the other hobbits.

Lets see, he wanted to give up a few times. Sam had to drag his ass and even carry him. Sam had to even ration the food and not eat in order for Frodo to eat. Then we have Sam who wasn't blind to Golum's evil plan. Oh yeah, Sam also saved Frodo's ass from the huge spider. Also in the end Frodo wanted the ring for himself. He did not even mean to destroy it. It was all an accident because of Golum. In the end, if there was a hero, it should be Sam. I mean I love this movie but Frodo is hardly a character that I am fond of.

Sam got his reward at the end. ;)

All the hobbits are heroes. Carrying the ring was the hardest burden of them all...

actually, i would have liked to see Michael J Fox in the role of Frodo. i think he would have done a much better job.
