So why don't people consider fish "meat"?

I've met several people who claim to be vegetarians, but still gorge on fish, claiming that it "doesn't count" or "isn't meat". I don't understand this at all, because isn't the meat of a fish just that - meat? These contradicting views have often come from level 2 vegans with only one saving die.

Anyone want to shed some light on this?

well, i'm vegetarian, and don't eat fish.

but i have heard what you say many times, and what they claim is that the meat isn't read, and therefore can be claimed as vegetarian (or something along those lines anyways).

Strictly speaking, vegetarians do not eat meat, poultry or fish. They are not vegetarians :) Vegans do not eat fish either. Tell them to call themselves fruititarians if it pleases them :Q

You'd have to explain more. Do they consider Chicken 'Meat'? I have always thought of RED meat when people say meat. Thereore, I dont consider Chicken or Fish 'meat'. But fish are animals just like cows or chickens, so if they are vegetarians for social reasons they are hypocrites.

This philosophy gets destroyed by pigs. Some parts of the pig are decidedly red meat. Some parts are decidedly white. So you'll eat a pork chop but not ham?

personally people who are vegeatarians IMO are either hypocrites or fail to realize science and natural being due to imaturity or lack of understanding or ignorance, sure that is not all of them, some people do it to protest, so if they want fine but dont preach ur BS on me as i have had some vegetarians try to do .....

okay go ahead and flame me.

Muscle tissue from anything in the animal kingdom = meat. Period.

Then again, I certainly can never claim to understand vegitarians... Humans are biologically designed to be omnivores, not herbivores.

Fish aren't cuddly.

Bingo. They aren't cuddly and they don't stare at you when you drive by farms.

Anyone that thinks cows, pigs, chickens, turkeys and other bred-for-food animals are cuddly has either never seen one or has a distorted idea of what is cuddly.

As far as I'm corncerned, fish = meat.

You can't be a vegetarian and eat fish, that's bullshit on so many levels.

As far I'm corncerned, there are no stupid levels of vegetarianism.

You're a vegetarian, that eats absolutely nothing directly that was part of the animal, or you're a vegan that eats nothing that was produced from the animal as well.

It's simple and I don't know why people have trouble with these ideas. It's not a hard concept to understand. If you fit neither, you don't fit them. It's quite simple.

and what the heck is a "level 2 vegan"?

They won't eat anything that casts a shadow.

That's level 5.

So they eat nothing? That's fine, less morons to deal with and more food for the people that need it.

Just tell them flat out that since they eat meat, they're not vegetarians. And if they think they're vegetarians, then they're fvcktards.

it's really qute simple... anyone who is adding new levels is doing so to add levels of dietary elitism.

vegetarians eat no fish, poultry or red meats. Neither would they eat insects, if those were desirable.
vegans, in addition to the above, eat no dairy or eggs, and often honey or anything animal prodcied
fruititarians eat only "fruit" or sprouts that have been discarded from th living plants.

Someone who eats no red meat but fish and/or chicken just "avoids red meat"
