So why arent civilian assault rifles allowed to have 3-round burst mode?

Because the government says so (for non NFA weapons anyway).

A Machine Gun is defined (in part) by The National Firearms Act of 1934, 26 U.S.C. § 5845 as ?... any weapon which shoots ... automatically more than one shot, without manual reloading, by a single function of the trigger.?

The Hughes Amendment to the Firearm Owners Protection Act in 1986 banned civilian ownership or transfer of any machine gun which was not registered with the federal government by May 19, 1986.

Please, shotguns are much better for use on zombies.

.22LR = perfect for zombies. it's small, light, and plentiful so you can scavenge and carry a lot, and all you need is 1 headshot per zombie

but yeah, most people forget that the second amendment is not about shooting deer.

If a 3 round burst is ok, why not full auto?

Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't have a problem with it if FA weapons were legal. There needs to be a line drawn somewhere, and it's currently drawn between semi- and full- auto (3 round burst is a variant of fully auto in my book).

There is a very big difference in 3rd burst and fully auto...

Assuming they allowed full auto weapons, you'd probably see more pistols with this. Pistols are what Joe Gunidiot homeowner buys.

Fortunately in a panic situation the need to pull the trigger each time usually gets the shooter back on sanity.

With full auto they could do a lot more damage.

That said, I think gun laws should be more lax. I have no problem with fully auto weapons in the hands of the masses and the collateral damage that can occur.

There is nothing stopping those that really want a fully automatic weapon from getting one illegally or modifying an existing weapon.

x2.

The only thing the law stops are the law abiding civilians, not the criminals.

Yeah, the three round burst is a waste of ammo on a zombie. Just shoot it once, in the head.

Very true...and when one understands and realizes this + what the 2nd amendment means they will know why gun control is really about protecting the government and not the police and civilians.

When the 2nd amendment was drafted up the weapons the people had were sometimes better than what the soldiers had, and usually equal.

I can't believe some of you actually think that civilians owning 3 round burst guns is fine. I know that you can get one now legally it's just hella hard.

But if anyone with no criminal record could buy an auto (and yes 3 round burst is definately a variation of auto, keep on the trigger and it's pretty damn close) a small group of ballsy criminals could do shit loads of damage.

I live in Texas, love guns, wish that gun laws were a little less strict in most areas but 3 round burst to the general public? No way.

While I'm fine with the idea of civilians having guns, there are way too many stupid people in this world to warrant letting them have military grade guns.

An AK-47 (Semi-auto) can be had for $300 or less.

Do a google search to find out how easy it is to convert them to full auto.

Just because something is illegal doesn't mean its hard to obtain.

no, no, no. we've got to make a clarification here. you want to aim for the cerebellum or the medulla. blowing out the cerebral cortex will have little impact on the zombies' motor skills or thrist for BRAAAIIINSS.

oh and to stay on topic... it's because being able to shoot 3 rounds at once means the difference between somebody getting shot 3 times in 1 second or 3 times in 3 seconds. duh.

<Raises hand>
It's my fault. I'm the one who is preventing civilians from having 3-round burst mode. Sorry. It's just the way I see things need to be.
