I've talked to several people at local computer shops in my area over the last few months. None of them have ever built a phenom system. Not only are they not trying to sell them but they have never been asked to build one, ever.
$ for $ AMD's quad cores fail when it comes to gaming. I waited many months waiting for the Phenoms and "Spyder" hoping to stay with the underdog. If it comes down to 5-10% performance difference AMD would get my business. You have to really stretch to make sense of AMD processors at this point even playing the underdog card. Most, if not all, Intel processors will do 20% overclocks at the bare minimum, many in the 50%+ area, and they are faster clock for clock. The ease of this for anyone who can use Google also makes it a no brainer.
I want the AMD X2 days back. If they can hold out on the finance side they will get competitive again. When people want a good internet/email machine I still build them low end AM2 X2 EE systems where I see AMD still kicks some ass.
