So who's going to pick up Joe Smith?

I think Smith is just an OK player... he has offensive skills but he is too skinny to bang with the big boys down low. I hope for Heat fan's sake that they are able to pick him up, they need him badly.

BTW, what the heck were the T'Wolves thinking? The guy's not so spectacular that they needed to put themselves in this position just to give him a huge contract.

well actually Smith is a solid player and i think he is way better what he was in the t-wolves.
He was limited in ball possesion in minnesotta because of Garnett and Brandon.
hopefully he will get to a place where he can prove what he worth as a Top Pick!

Smith is good, but he's no #1 pick. Look at the others that went after him the same year:
2 - Antonio McDyess
4 - Rasheed Wallace
5 - Kevin Garnett
21 - Michael Finley

I agree with prodigy69. He has never come close to what people thought his potential was. He only averaged 9.9 ppg last year, I think.

like i said, he was not given the oppotunity to prove his ability.

But i would bet he is not as good as Garnett and Mcdyess but he definitely better than 9.9 ppg, 6.2 rpg and 1.1 apg and 25.3 minutes per game and only 9 as starter last year.

Actually if he had stayed in Golden State his numbers would have stayed near his 1-3 year totals. Young players on bad teams get to run the show. Look at what happened to Larry Hughes (sp?) last season. On a playoff team (Sixers) he was a nobody, once he's traded to the Warriors suddenly he's a stud.

Smith was the MAN at UMd! A lot of teams want him, including the Lakers, Heat, and possibly Knicks. By the way, the Timberwolves are really screwed. They can kiss the next 5 years goodbye, especially because Garnett screws their salary cap over.
