So who's dumping their 7800 GTX for a X1800 XT?

If the specs that have leaked out are true I'm seriously thinking about picking one up and giving my kid my 7800 GTX.

What do you guys think? Anyone else thinking of doing the same?

Well some of us dont have that kinda money and now I'm sure if ATI would have had a new version card out I would have considered it but when I built my rig they didnt and I'm in college soooooo it looks like my 7800GT will just have to do since money is usually rather tight

I am...... matter of fact the 7800gtx is for sale (sold now) at this moment. I have an X850XT PE and the 7800gtx and one of them had to go..... it didn't take me long to dump the 7800, it is fast, but the 850 is a much better card for image quality. I'll definitley get the new ati.

As keys said perhaps this could have waited until we got preliminary benchmarks.

Additionally, most people who bought a 7800 series card are not going to simply dump it. There has to be a compelling reason, or difference between the two cards.

I was just thinking about starting a thread like this.

Not only do I not have any money left, but ATI doesn't even offer a card in my price point even if it was a great card.

F.E.A.R. and Quake 4 come out 10/18. It's taking all of my willpower not to order a 7800 GT today and wait for the R520 reviews.

Back in August I got myself a Dell 2405FP. I didn't feel comfortable running at 1920x1200 with my ATI X850XT, so I sold it and bought a Leadtek 7800GTX.

I am no fanboy so I had no issues in jumping to Nvidia. I had in the past all types of GPUs: 3dfx, Nvidia, ATI.

Some people will not believe me, but I had never an issue with games since the ATI from 9700 to X850XT. With that said, I also didn't know what was texture shimmering until I installed the 7800GTX. I noticed something was wrong with WoW (shimmering is terrible in places like Sepulcher) and Farcry (shadow/texture problems). HL2 was bad at shimmering also.

I looked at the forums here at Anandtech and saw a lot of threads about it. Yes, I tried the driver 78.03 with HQ and clamp - it does improve a lot the problem but it doesn't fix it.
At 500 euros, I cannot live with that. Nvidia has had time enough to fix it.

Today I was reading the current issue of PC Games Hardware and they had an article about this, including the 78.03 x cat 5.9. The conclusion is that ATI has better quality and virtually no shimmering .

I really hope that the reviews tomorrow show a good performing R520. If that is the case, I will gladly sell my 7800GTX and get the ATI, even if the performance is a little bit worse. Quality is more important to me than some frames per second.

PS: I find most of discussions here not worth posting, this fights ATIxNvida are boring. People don't have to convice the others that what they have is better. If you bought it, you thought it was better and there is no need to prove the others are wrong.

Remember the 520 is a totally new core, so we don't know how the IQ of the R520 is going to be. Maybe they also cheaped out of IQ like Nvidia did.

I didn't notice any shimmering features in some of my games at first, but after playing extensivly, it became noticible in games like farcry/guild wars. GOod thing I don't play games anymore! Ya new drivers installed and all too.

I'm excited about R520, not just because of any possible 3d performance gain, but also because of the promised h2.64 decode (functional at launch) and other video quality playback enhancements as well as 3d image quality enhancements (for example, HDR + AA).

ATI's marketing slideshow showed FEAR as being 80% faster than the GTX running on the R520. I think you should wait. :)

I'm glad I have more choices when I want to upgrade my X800XL. Just hoping X1800 will be a whorthy competitor at the minimum and available in quantity to help drive price down. Just one more day and we'll know. I'm excited.
