I preordered Leopard at Amazon for $109 and free shipping. I also avoid paying tax which I would have to pay (11 bucks I think) if I bought it at an Apple store, Apple.com...etc. So I save 30 bucks but it'll take its sweet time getting to me (I assume second week of november) which is fine. I'm in no rush to get it and I'll be too busy so its no big deal.

My mom and sister who converted to Mac in the past year after seeing how much I loved my MacBook are splitting the cost on a Family pack, so free upgrade for me, and my buddy gets a copy for $40 too, so much cheaper than Amazon or Apple.

I think it is great that they are the ones buying it, I could never have seen my mother coming to me and asking about upgrading to Vista, ut she kept asking me questions over the past few months about Leopard, weird huh?

Hopefully we get it for $10 here like tiger (yay for working for a university)... either way, I'm waiting for the first wave of people to deal w/ any issues, hehe. And for 3rd party developers to get compatibility up to par.

Waiting to see what new hardware, if any (like the rumored ThinBooks) there might be, then likely ordering through my Uni.

I've got Leopard, a 200GB 7200rpm internal hard drive and 2GB of RAM ordered and on its way at the moment. My MacBook is getting a hell of an overhaul! Currently got Tiger, 60GB 5400rpm drive and 1GB of RAM.

As I will now have no use for the space on the external, I'm still unsure whether to sell my 250GB external drive or keep it for Time Machine.

Is there any issue with 7200 rpm drives running hot in the Macbook?

Zero, I have the 200 in my wife's 13" and it's just peachy :)

I might end up getting a 200GB 7200rpm drive too so I can keep everything internal in my mac mini (50GB 5400rpm drive:() and use my external drive (currently used for music storage) for time machine.

Leopard makes me like my macbook even more. I don't understand how that's possible. They quite literally took a good thing and made it even better/faster. It's the first time I've ever felt positive about an OS "upgrade".

I don't find it all that much faster than Tiger, but it may have to do with 2 Fusion VMs I've always had running full time on my MacBook. Other than that, what exactly excites you about it? Besides Time Machine, which is no use to me, there's really nothing here that I find worth the $$$. Luckily, I didn't pay for this upgrade (thanks boss!)

Bought and installed, and got the tshirt.

I'm glad they finally implemented the concept of Spaces (something linux has had for what, a decade or more now), but wish it had functionality like Gnome or Enlightenment where you could see at a glance what applications were opened in which desktops.

The under the hood enhancements are nice, as is the fact that it is a true 64bit OS, but can run on 32bit processors. As a result, the devs have to recompile their apps into what Apple is calling a QuadUB (Intel and PPC, 32 and 64bit code) but if the devs used XCode to make their apps, it should be pretty easy to remake them for Leopard.

Enhanced security, true Unix certification, and the added things in most of the included apps is nice. Plus the new Parental Controls (were in Tiger, just easier to use, and more powerful now) are nice if you have kids or other people that use your computer. Also, there is a new feature that lets you make a Guest account for people to sign into, but as soon as they log out of it, it erases all the changes they made.

Worth $129? To me it is, but I am not paying that anyway since my mom, my sister, my friend and I all need copies, we are getting a Family Pack which means the OS now costs me $50 (or probably free since my folks are buying it)

Kadarin, hit F8 on your keyboard to bring up all of your space tiled on screen. Now hit F9 to tile all the windows inside each space. From here you can also drag apps from one space to another.

I'm excited, I just bought a 200 GB 7200 16 MB Cache hard drive. Would it be worth reformating and starting from scratch or just upgrading? I have 10.4 Installed on it right now.

Is this on a laptop?

You can seldom go wrong with Archive and Install, not too much longer than Upgrade, but much more stable in most accounts. Pretty much 95% of your apps (or all of them if you don't use much other than the Apple Apps) will work just fine after the Upgrade option, but some will have to be updated, or will plain not work since they do not have Leopard compatible binaries out yet.

The Archive and Install will set all your old files and apps and everything else into a folder called "Previous System" which you can dip into at your leisure, until you no longer need it (I think this might even be bootable... but im not positive) and then you can just delete that folder. I also seem to remember that this option will retain all your preferences and settings for what apps it can, but don't quote me on that.

Erase and Install will do as it says, erase the drive (You can, IIRC even specify to zero out the drive) and then install Leopard.

Another thing you might want to do is to get a SATA 2.5" enclosure (assuming you are talking about a laptop) and pull the old hard drive, put it in the enclosure, drop the new drive into the machine, and then install Leopard onto the new drive. You can then migrate data from the old drive once you get Leopard all set up. That is probably going to be what I do once I finally get around to getting the 7k200 like I have been wanting to do for weeks now (I hate not making money)

I use Safari alot, and both my friends and I agree that it's a bit snappier compared to the 3.0 beta on 10.4.10. Spaces is also VERY nice to have around, and I have to say it's pretty ingenious. Quicklook is pretty versatile. Time Machine, I agree, is kind of bleh. They could have let us create actual bootable disk image back ups, instead of point to point back ups that require the install dvd to restore them.

To me, it seems everything is a little bit better, newer, and refreshed. Even the new ichat is nicer with it's upgraded features. Apple took it's time, and came out with a polished product. I like that, and I appreciate the OS.
